    Moulding plane trivia

Some of my skewed planes have the wedge top skewed as well but having just had a look it might be that you need to increase the wedge depth. On mine with a square finial the lowest side of the wedge skew is at least in line with the top of the wedge. Cheers,Andy

    Sash windows advice

Key question for you to consider.... Does the person hanging these for you understand what they are doing as it may well be that they are now too heavy for the old weights? Cheers, Andy

    Sash windows advice

No gaps should be visible. The "finishing" was the responsibility of the maker to provide a perfect product unless you agreed otherwise. Painting was premature. Can be sorted easily by properly gluing in slips of wood. Glue which is still visible on surfaces needs scraping/chiseling off, don't...

    Metal band on chisel handle?

Remarkable, first box I moved tonight.... On a BRADES & Co gouge. Very hard to distinguish with the naked eye but putting 2&2 together it says WILFIN PATENT 221871-1923 Cheers, Andy

    Metal band on chisel handle?

Well, in all my tool hoarding years I can't say as I've ever seen a marked one, although I have seen that advertising before. How many handles with "bands" do I have and not paid close attention to? Not many at all and that's from a collection of approximately 3-400 and maybe more. I will pay...

    Vintage drawing set. . .

Please let me introduce you to the multi talented Grace Horne. One of her recent projects was a presentation scalpel in fitted, covered and lined box. There's 2 or 3 parts to the videos but well worth signing up to Instagram for, for this alone. Cheers, Andy

    Gunstock door

Perhaps a Villa in this sense refers to a holiday home that had a removable (boarded) shutter on the inside while the property was empty? Cheers, Andy

    Gunstock door

Looking good Johnny. Interesting you mentioned that "Villa " door as it doesn't make sense to me to have a removable glazed shutter on the inside and no weather proofing at the lower edge? Could there have been a misinterpretation in preparation of the drawing I wonder? Cheers, Andy

Try Kibworth hardware. You could get shiny new ones and fume them with nitric acid... note I THINK it's nitric acid... Cheers, Andy
