    Joiners: design critique, please.

No, just flat and sloped like you've drawn but overhanging the glass to the sides as well. Assuming you can hinge along the top. Andy

    Joiners: design critique, please.

I'd be in for Accoya as well. Just thinking out the box here but...... Would a three sided stepped glazing unit be taking things to far? ( EDIT to say might not look right for your property ) No need for beads and the glazing silicone should be more than enough to bond to the rebate. For the top...

    lignum bowling balls

Ah! It's just dawned on me... It's a plumbers following bobbin for pulling through lead pipe to restore the shape. Hence the smaller hole? Knew it looked familiar, I have a string of them hanging on the block and tackle in the lounge  Whoops, shouldn't be diverting and for sale thread...

    lignum bowling balls

Are you thinking that this was previously a bowls ball as well? To me it looks like a"Chog" which was used to take the slack out of animal tethers. Although the hole is usually rope sized. Cheers Andy

    DIY Damp Proof Injection

A nice old house I have the pleasure of working in always has a damp cellar. I love playing the house detective and have come to the conclusion that the great big granite boulders at the bottom of the cellar walls would have been the original damp course. The key to this working , in my opinion...

Clarke Shhh 2/9 air compressor won't start!

You say you can hear hissing. Is there pressure in the tank (no motor to produce it) at this point or is this hissing a failing electronic component ? Cheers Andy

    User manuals

Ever microwaved a Beech woodworking plane? The retention and further emission of heat is remarkable. May be Ideal for defrosting the windscreen with a smoother or two or dropping a moulding plane in the leg pockets of your work trousers on a chilly day  Andy

Thoughts on older Lurem machines? Specifically P/Ts

I like my 1973 Lurem c210b combi which, many years ago, I bought early doors at a carboot sale. Although when I stripped it down and reassembled it I discovered a couple of problems that needed to be dealt with. The rotating starter switch, on/off/on/off, was dicky and needed attention. In the...

    Garage finds.

A month or so ago I was going through my garage and seeing what tins needed chucking. Been a good 10 + years since anything was opened. One tin (watered down Acrylic primer) didn't sound very sloshy so thought I'd take a look. I put the screwdriver to the lip and that was enough for it to blow...

    Cascamite not setting properly

So, just what was wrong with the old fashioned Cascamite, why change it ? I happened on a jam jar full of it last night and did a little mix to see if it was ok. Perfect result and been there that long I cannot remember where I borrowed it from  Cheers Andy
