    AndyT`s Bench.Talk.101 now on YouTube

Thanks to those who have asked. I've forwarded the e-mail address for you to join us live tomorrow night. If any one else would like to drop in I'll pop the e-mail over to you also. Perhaps I should also mention that I think this presentation is less likely to be about collecting planes and more...

Cutting mitres without a chop saw or box! Who else has tried it

Yep, fair play to ya chap. Perhaps dip was a bad choice of words for my analogy.... Slight "waver" in the reflection might be better suited.;) Cheers Andy

Cutting mitres without a chop saw or box! Who else has tried it

Hope this doesn't end in tears.... What does often show on a fair few planes is a dip just around the mouth, which is not necessarily a problem. Cheers Andy

Cutting mitres without a chop saw or box! Who else has tried it

There's another reflection trick I use but less often needed for most. If you want an idea of how flat a plane sole is sight along it at a low angle towards something that looks straight. Even if what you are sighting is not 100% you will be able to detect a distortion of the sole in the...

    FREE GIVEAWAY drilling machine.

Well, I keep pushing this as it is way too good for me to knock it apart. What you do with it is up to you. The weather is closing in around it again. If you have an air supply don't be seeing it all out of love.... Delivery between Leicester and Scunthorpe may be available? Cheers Andy

    AndyT`s Bench.Talk.101 now on YouTube

Link to YouTube video now below. Heads up then folks. Got to let you all know that our resident forum librarian of all things interesting and forgotten, is giving what I'm sure will be an interesting presentation on this week's Benchtalk. I know not all of you do the "zoom chat" thingy to...

    Damp in garage wall

In the time it takes to organise any other options you could have run a line of (10mm?) holes along the slab with your SDS drill. Do a line or two the short way to section the break up and it should break out with moderate effort. Of course, if you want a neat, cut edge, ignore the above;) They...

Beetle in the middle of oak?

Thanks, the thought that the worm may have occurred before manufacture had crossed my mind. Bit cheeky to use it with it, but if, as I suspect, it was a paint job from the start it was likely all filled and primed before going to site. Those dark patches on the wood are from a previous blowtorch...

Are 4" cast iron butts no longer avail.... - updated, found and fitted.

Just an update to say the hinges have come up great after a quick blast on the wire wheel. Was a pleasure to hand fit them, as I usually do, especially having a fresh surface to work with. Owing to having the architrave bead edge flush with the rebate, they were skewed to leave no chop in on the...

Beetle in the middle of oak?

Interesting note about the fungal decay. This used to be an outside frame and from stripping the (painted from new) oak fanlight above it revealed it had been taking in water for many years. The odd little bit of rot along the bottom rail is evidence that if the porch hadn't been added when it...

Beetle in the middle of oak?

No they're reclaimed hinges of the most excellent quality and yes that recent thread, now updated, was by me. Of the four hinges only one had a minor amount of movement along the knuckle which was overcome by turning over appropriately...

Beetle in the middle of oak?

Been working on an old oak door frame and uncovered some historic worm attack down the centre of the plank. Any ideas what's been going on as I cannot remember the last time I seen it like this? I get the impression this was done before being turned into the door frame as some of the tunnels...

    Oak Beam Fireplace

Few snippets of information there for you Stewart and a few questions. Wanna fill us in and maybe ,if possible, some piccies? Is it a modern house with dry lined plasterboarding which means there is a gap between the blocks and board? Cheers Andy

    Oak Beam Fireplace

Did you mean plaster board or plaster? Using ears or tabs let into the plaster and then filled over should be ample. They will shrink a lot so give a few months to settle beforehand. How big? It is usually dead weight when up against the wall so no major forces are involved Cheers Andy
