    Internet influenced vice purchase....

Sadly cannot see much happening in the near future but a good clean with a heavy brush with a liberal oiling and a wipe clean with the dirtiest oily rag I have. Not the Peter Wright reprint but a 1923 Buck & Hickman entry. Cheers Andy

    A Charles Rennie Mackintosh Bed

How brilliant that you have had the pleasure and opportunity to see this bed for yourself. Would this be the one your dad seen or the actual original? Good luck with getting it finished, such a fitting tribute to your Father. I have just thought of a brilliant Arts and Crafts worker I know...

    Internet influenced vice purchase....

Asked Robin Sharples (Mr Peter Wright) if cast or forged and in this instance it's cast. It's a 4" and when I find my Peter Wright reprint catalogue I'll see how big they went to. I was looking for your post @TFrench but a search for Peter Wright drew a blank.... Cheers Andy

    What is this vice worth?

Admittedly it's not that clear but it is quick release. I'd be wary on making an offer until it's been tested by yourself and proved not to "jump". Cheers Andy

Wow, looks like it'll be an interesting study, you gotta love a bit of ancient carving, in fact that reminds me to revisit and photograph a bit of Medieval panelling I have. Cheers Andy

    Interpretation of carved pew top?

Yes a very nice curiosity, which unfortunately isn't mine, well I say unfortunately but the plus side is I have the task/pleasure of incorporating it into a permanent piece of Covid prevention equipment (y) Hopefully be able to use up a bit more stash..... below \/ \/ Cheers Andy

    Interpretation of carved pew top?

Alas It's no longer in situ and the history of which church has been lost. Interesting insight about the oak. Two parts have separated but it's salvageable. Cheers Andy

    Interpretation of carved pew top?

Just been shown this and thought it might have some form of symbolism. A couple of hounds with oak leaves and acorns. Who's our resident carving/genealogy expert? Cheers Andy

Dominion Combo Saw - Old but serviceable? Woodworking Equipment

@wallace Also something to consider, was the planer almost a stand alone unit? Cheers Andy

Dominion Combo Saw - Old but serviceable? Woodworking Equipment

As above really ^^. Seriously heavy duty those Dominions. Had a play once, if I remember right the saw bed rises past the blade? Also think the crosscut is swung 90° to use the planer bed or saw bed ? @TFrench Cheers Andy

The equivalent of Mothballs for Woodworm....

In 300+ years beech has been the industry standard and still made today although on a miniscule scale compared. Philly planes for example http://www.phillyplanes.co.uk/ Be interesting to hear what timber you would recommend? Cheers Andy

The equivalent of Mothballs for Woodworm....

Yes, with frass and a followed by a swift microwave. Sometimes if it's a very common tool with a lot of holes/frass and not worth saving I chip em open and often you'll see a grub or so. Yes English Beech was predominantly the first choice timber for planemaking. Dare say the use of inferior...

The equivalent of Mothballs for Woodworm....

Many a beech moulding plane has suffered from worm well after the seasoning process has finished. Would it be true to say that this is a "dry wood" attack? Is there a moisture content at which seasoned timbers become susceptible? Cheers Andy
