Side rebate Plane - old ones any good?

All very true but the side rebate plane is a whole different gubbins :geek: Cheers Andy

    Warping

In my experience with modern day 44x44 planed stock it can dry and shrink to a rhombus shape. Cutting all your bits and leaving them to dry/shrink could present a problem when trying to group them together. I'd be looking at cutting into short machinable lengths and stacking in the house to...

Well seasoned Beech table lamp kits.

Reverse psychology, "save me, save me" Apart from ought else there is probably enough meat in em to have a go at making some small planes.... Cheers Andy

    Reading handwriting.....

I've messaged the local history group and awaiting a reply. There's likely to be more examples of this signature and it'll be nice to verify the identity. Cheers Andy

Side rebate Plane - old ones any good?

Yes the old ones are good and unless abused should serve you well. A note here to say that often a sticking point (literally) is that the resultant point of the blade sometimes needs flattening off a touch. Without this, that point can have a habit of digging in and impeding the taking of a...

Warped wooden worktop - any solution?

Might be as simple as turn them over and leave for 2 weeks. Check em regularly and if they hit the flat spot again, work, seal and fix em sharpish.... Cheers Andy

Identify this part and I'll give it to you

Part of the mitre gauge and pusher attachment. https://www.machinespares.net/products/startrite/metal/vertical-bandsaws/startrite-14182024-30-v-t-r-s-series/mitre-gauge-pusher-attachment/ I have the gauge and pusher but not sure this is on it? Cheers Andy

Evolution of the Record 52 1/2 quick release vice

The bars section seems to be overshooting the casting. Are you saying it's jamming as you try to open from this position? Could this be because it's being closed up too far without timbers fitted on the jaw faces? As for the threaded hole, it looks a bit recent and in a position liable to cause...

    Staircase treads...

Too rustic in colour or texture? Before you give in you could have a go with some Oxalic acid (wood whitener) to bleach it back. Cheers Andy

    Reading handwriting.....

Definite that the subject is in Hinckley but hopefully the local history bods will confirm the script. My guess is it would have been a local photographer. Cheers Andy

    Reading handwriting.....

I'd also add the factory I worked on is now demolished. Sad to say the older I get the more instances I have of things I worked on/in disappearing. Mind you I was never happy on this one with not stepping the ridge flashing, which irked my eye every time I drove towards it :)...

    Reading handwriting.....

Many thanks Glitch for your information. Amazing, I had searched all manner of phrases to do with HINCKLEY hosiery factory fires and failed.... Perhaps I need more patience or a better search facility, whatever happened to "cached"? results. I had it in my head that the writing was the name of...

    Reading handwriting.....

Thanks for the input folks. Tris may (as I'm thinking) have the location of Hinckley right, as that was the location of the demolition and salvage yard I got this 42"x18" photo from. It could likely be a burnt out hosiery factory as, seated, front, left to right, 5&6 look like they're holding a...
