Sold 2 x Pairs of Marples Sash Cramp Heads

Always a handy set to have but just in case someone has these and finds a problem with one of the heads I believe it needs unscrewing and turning around. Cheers Andy

Welcome to Whitmore's Timber – Your Family-Run Timber Merchant in the Midlands!

Being in Hinckley, you're my "go to" for those odd bits I need, still got the container of delights out back of the shop ? Little snippet of a family connection here as my Uncle Herbert Anderton was a saw doctor for the mill back in the day. Good to see you on board and top marks on the website

    Prestons Plane find

Not sure how much guff you were having to route around in but I'd have been tempted to give it a forensic going over. The front infill looks to have parted company (maybe rust split it off) only very recently and possibly at the same time that repaired handle. Those two problems are somewhat...

    Wooden plane makers?

Interesting with that anchor having no cross bar and the S on top. An observation on these planes if I may, all 3 are quite likely machine made examples owing to the roundness of the chamfers on the edges and the edges of the mouth opening. Are there any numbers stamped on the heel of the body's?

Perhaps some more pictures of the smaller plane and the trademark ? Is it an uncut iron and what is the trademark on it please. Cheers, Andy

    Wooden plane makers?

I have to admit that I don't believe I have any Marples tools in the collection with the anchor trademark. Heck, until now I was sure you were referring to something else. Thanks, you've opened my eyes. Cheers, Andy

    Wooden plane makers?

I believe that in 1854 it became "& sons" and in 1897 became "Ltd". Mind you, I'm not certain I've seen any plane irons marked "Ltd" so maybe carried on with this mark ? You will be better informed of the plane maker by a name stamped on the front end of the plane if it's different from Marples.

Unknown Plane Maker, Any Ideas, Info

Can't get at the updated BPM4 just now but in BPM3 the dates covering 2 separate London addresses are 1878-1880 and then 1883 - 1889. There might be a bit of very faint marking (an address) in between the two very visible lines showing here. Cheers, Andy

    Starrett square - rule damage

Be hard pressed to say it's not faulty, where did you buy it from as some outlets like "Workshop Heaven" for example offer a lifetime warranty. Deductions from your pictures.... This isn't about where you are clamping and using the stock as the damage is right to the ends. The part that pulls...

    Roundover on a small piece?

Router fastened to a stout board and overhung on the edge of the bench, the hole for the cutter just big enough and the fence fashioned to be a snug fit around the cutter.
