Mounting a bracket - advice required please

My remedy for getting good fixing in dodgy substrates including "dot and dab"..... Ample 12mm or bigger dowel. Matching drill. Drill hole and vacuum out (using small piece of tube to bridge gap if dot and dab.) Chamfer end of dowel and Mark depth of hole. Score dowel sideways with saw teeth Cut...

    Flat or chamfered?

Not sure if this is the answer or even works but what if the cast bench ends were splayed to allow the slats to sit flat. The result would be a bench that for me would be quite pleasing to the eye. Cheers Andy

Guess the Gubbins Tool identification quiz....Now with Answers

Just a thought to run by you all.. Is it just me or do you folks find this a most wonderful object to look at? Also what is it about spirals that makes me want to turn it whilst having the tips of my fingers in the grooves? Anyway, enough of my afflictions, my initial thoughts are for plugging...

Mystery trigger operated shears / scissors .......

Bringing these to the surface again..... I'm not sure how much can be read into this bit of information but food for thought. Using Google lens to read the makers mark it gives a result of FECTER which may or may not be correct? The surname FECTER is listed as meaning one who fought in duels...

    Advice sought - repairing Axe

Roy Underhill explained the folly of allowing any "eyed" tool to get wet, accidentally or intentionally. The wood swells and the unyielding steel eye crushes the cells of the handle trapped within. When it dries out and shrinks those crushed cells don't spring back and a loose tool prevails. So...

Essentially the staves of a barrel are curved but I believe that the mating surfaces are flat and the long plane will allow a full length shaving to be taken. Cheers Andy

    Old ELU DAH176 planer knives

Just thinking out the box here but I wonder if they changed from one style of cutting blades to the other but kept the same block. If they did, might you be able to get the other parts to take standard blades? PLEASE NOTE.... this should only be considered if it's a 100% the same block. Cheers Andy

End bracket specs for record vices

You have 1 original on top row, 3rd from left to use as a template. Remember the holes are not in a straight line. I can see possibly only 2 proper Record vices, the other 4 look completely different to the norm?? Cheers Andy
