How would you describe yourself in woodworking terms

I'm anything you want as long as I get paid for it. You want some skirting fitted? Well then I'm a carpenter........ and a cabinet making? Now I'm a cabinet maker. I'm a joiner all this week making windows, next week I'll be a cabinet maker and from then up to Christmas I'll be a good old chippy.

    new oak floor

My god! Not that stuff again! You've just reminded me of one of my most stressful jobs ever! Do not go near this stuff unless you know someone who can give you a quick master class in getting the first row of boards down, because if they aren't perfectly straight........well, it will be a long day.

    MDF Raised Panel Shaker

You can buy MDF edge sealing primer stuff designed to stop paint soaking in. If your going to do that then yes deffinitely do it in several passes. As for doing it in MDF......bit dodgey. Make sure you get a good quality MDF and not the coarse cr*p they sell at wickes!

Hire a porta-nailer from a hire shop (search on google if you haven't heard of one). Fantastic bits of kit. Whack straight into joists using a rubber mallet. Where you can't get the porta nailer in (ie when boards are too close to the wall etc), just use nails and drive in by hand (at the...

Router or something else? Semiprofessional use.

I'm amazed your a woodworker and don't have a router. How have you got by??! Its the most versatile tool in the whole of woodworking you can do pretty much everything with a router. Get a good one. As you say, buy cheap buy twice. It's essential you get a good quality router.

    Makita plunge saw blades.

A few months ago I went to buy a 2nd blade for my festool and asked if i could use a cheap blade in it instead of buying another festool blade. The point he made was pretty clear. You have spent all that money on a plunge saw, as so you get a quality prescision cut. Buying a cheap blade defeats...

    Making 'planks'

Can't you just take them to a local workshop? I'd be amazed if it cost you more than 40 quid to get them to the size you require. As long as your not talking 2+ meters

Clamp a belt sander on its side and tease the ply up to it. Finish by hand with a sanding block.

    Hand-Tool Phobia

I tend to use hand tools more on site than I do in the workshop. In the workshop the power tools are all out. Saw set up, planer in the corner, router always to hand with bits left, right and centre. I believe that joinery in the workshop should be as perfect as possible, as quick as possible...

    Workshop stove....

This looks BRILLIANT. I certainly wont be paying for a tine drum with a hole in the bottom though! Seems like the perfect excuse to sack the morning off work and source a drum and make this thing!
