My Victorian sliding sash windows d/g

The photos are not in the correct order. whoops! The decorative sash 'horns' were one of the final procedures that I did. I think they are for decoration but also to stop the windows going fully up / down as this would cause the chords to 'bottom out'

My Victorian sliding sash windows d/g

I has some victorian sliders to make for a builder and after looking on here I found reletively little info. So I just drew my setting out and went for it! They are made in sapele hardwood and have (by request) been made using spiral spring balances. They are also double glazed and I had to...

    Good website for screws?

Just to reguergitate (?) this thread instead of starting a new one... Been looking at some pretty snazzy screws lately (how sad does that sound) and have come across HECO screws from Germany as well as GRK's in the states. Both look real nice and in torx also. The Heco's are hella pricey but...

door stops - inset cupboard doors

5mm wooden block with bevelled edges. The only other thing you can do is make a complete false rebate but like chripsy says, why bother. you will need one top and bottom or over time, the doors will twist towards wherever there is no block Just make the blocks as thing as possible, like i...

    Bosch GAS shop vac

I recently brought a Bosch Gas 15L shop vac. It's great but I just have one major gripe with it. It seems to me that the bag can never fill up anywhere near to full capacity as the filter in the vacuum is sitting on half the dust bag. Ridiculous! Or am I doing something wrong? Does it even need...

Come on own up, who got some free advertising this morning

BAHAHAHA American Oak - as the timber. If he's selling a lot at that price I bet he makes a killing. I like it, but I think after I made the first 30 i'd start losing the will to live

    An 'alternative method'......or cheating.....

I'm almost certain that if I was to M&T 4 square components together, mitre in 4 lengths of bought-in moulding, pin, fill and prime, I could do it 40% quicker than doing it the proper way. I agree with you temple, If something is going to take longer than I thought, no matter how painstakingly...

    An 'alternative method'......or cheating.....

I imagine he just buys lengths of ovolo moulding. Just bang 4 lengths of square cut timber together, pin on 4 lengths of moudling and BANG. I always thought he managed to thrash things out his workshop at a pace! now I know why!

    An 'alternative method'......or cheating.....

I'm a joiner. I suppose still a young one compared to most, but at 27 I have my own business and workshop and fully believe I have trained 'properly' and to not lower my standards, just to make an extra £40 a week or whatever savings that corner cutting makes these days. There is another...
