Common faults with a spindle moulder

Rigidity is one concern but the main one is that you will be very limited finding cutter blocks to fit a 20mm shaft. They are all 30mm or 1.1/4”.

    Georgian Bars

When running the mounds through set up 2 feather boards. One on the top pressing the workpiece down to the table top and one on the side pushing it up against the fence and push through with push sticks. Between the two featherboards and the small flat at the top of the moulding there is...

    8x4 calculator

Can someone recommend me a decent app that will show the best ways to cut 8x4 sheets of whatever if I punch in all of my required sizes. I used to have a good one for my windows laptop but now I’m on a Mac it doesn’t work. If it’s an app that I can get on my iPad the that’s even better as I can...

    Table saw or Panel saw?

For me, my much used fielder K500 panel saw is (currently) irreplaceable. Good for a smallish workshop. Cuts up to 90mm. Scribe cutter for cutting boards. Only minor is that it can’t rip full length 8x4 sheets but I have made adaptions to it so it can do it. Sliding xroll table is awesome needs...

Pneumatic framing nailer / nailgun which one?

In terms of the smaller Brad nail guns I have used both and the dewalt won hands down. Never failed. Paslode jammed constantly and was total *****. In terms of the larger nailer I have also used the paslode (both from new) and this was equally as gash as it’s little brother. I also have owned...

Fitting lead glass panel to oak door.

I have used silicone bead in the past to cushion as you say but I have also used 2mm foam tape. Black works with Oak and after 5 minutes you don't notice it

It’s chisel time! Chisel me timbers! Your fav chisels!

I am workshop based general joinery. Certainly no raising floorboards! cutting in hinges, pairing back joints, fettling, chopping in locks, angling mortices in door stiles (often oak to allow for wedges) I do need to be able to use the "Alabama slammer" on them every once in a while.

It’s chisel time! Chisel me timbers! Your fav chisels!

New chisels time for me. My trusty marples have been sharpened and sharpened and there ain’t much left. Have no experience of other chisels. I like the look of Narex chisels. Looking to spend £100 - £200 for a set of the classic 6 but 8 would be a bonus for the money. No plastic handles. Timber...

    Wood fillers

We use dry flex for window repairs it’s great stuff and a little goes a long way if you use it along side traditional timber splicing. You can even buy it as a single tube so it fits in regular silicone guns. It will sink so just top up with regular 2 part on day 2and sand back flat. Happy days...
