    Barn to annex conversion

On that note - can anyone point me in the direction of where to get structurally insulated board from? you know, SIP boards.

    Barn to annex conversion

I do agree with this also - This would be the long route. Although I wouldn't bother cladding the inside with stone, probably just timber tongue and groove for a nordic feel

    Barn to annex conversion

I really do have to disagree. There is a lot to be saved IMO. The wall are 500mm thick. If the walls are saved then all I need to do is fit new windows, a front and a roof. Basically all the carpentry bits - all easy peasy for me. I also want it to have a rustic look and feel. We are in the wye...

Do I need to do this glue-up again?

Just get a little 2k workshop fan heater and get it toasty in there before gluing up. I have a Stanley one that I use in my shed. Sure that glue up will be fine. Remember to plug the heater into a timer switch - don’t leave it running all night long. And like others have said - get some...

    Barn to annex conversion

After speaking with someone this morning I am now in the mindset of digging out the surrounding ground. as far a I can tell the real digging will be at the back and one side. Hhhhmm. Back to thinking...

    Barn to annex conversion

Well it’s sounds almost overwhelmingly like it’s a bad idea to work with this structure. Which is a real shame. But that’s why I asked here. Back to the drawing board then and design a new building to go in its place so you’d better wait for more questions. This also opens the door for me to...

    Barn to annex conversion

Drawings coming on nicely though Figured I would have to create a new bathroom as there simply isn't space in the current structure. So up the project goes. Time & Cost

    Barn to annex conversion

I would be nervous about a product like that also. It's a stone wall that was never designed to be flat or smooth (as its a barn obviously) so the variation is really quite big in places. I actually think it would be easier, and certainly cheaper to dig out the entire edge and try to line the...

    Barn to annex conversion

hhhmmm yes i'm never entirely sure what tanking is but that is pretty much what I imagined. I don't want to have to build an internal though as space is tight. But if thats the only option then that will be the answer. And you right, looks like a hell of s lot of extra work on top of what is...

    Barn to annex conversion

Unfortunately digging around the outside is an absolute no go. I did think tanking would be an option Thanks for the input

    Barn to annex conversion

About to embark on a conversion of an old wood store barn into a small annex. See images attached. I intend to repoint the interior stonework with lime mortar but then I need to (I presume) fully waterproof 3 of the 4 walls to stop damp coming through. The barn is open at the front, but because...

    MFT - wossit all about?

We don't have the festool one but we do have the Axminster 1700 benches in our workshop and they incredibly handy. They have dog holes as well as 2 x nice big timber vices - Being able to clamp from any point on the bench makes things much easier. The vices combined with the dog holes are very...

External door warped - who is liable?

Nothing worse than being pressured by a radgy customer to install something and then getting angry when something goes wrong. I stopped using sapele a few years ago for external joinery. There was just too much movement in the stuff. Fitting doors and half expecting them to bow within months...

    Steaming wood

I have a gentle curved window to make. The component to be bent is 2.4m of 58 x 95mm Accoya. Im intending to pre machine the timber ie - rebate. Do you think steam bending will work in this case? have never done it before!
