    Understanding MDF

Good morning, I would be grateful of some advice on using mdf to make some furniture pieces, basically i would just like to get some pointers on which types to use and when its most suitable. They different types i am aware of are MDF HDF MR MDF - I know this is used in areas with higher...

    Dewalt 745

Yes but i would just make your own. If you can operate the table saw safely, im sure you can cut down the riving knife after watching some youtube video, i would look at buying a second riving knife rather than cutting your original one up. Tbh it does not look difficult at all and i would...

    Which Festool sander?

I wouldn't dream of using 80 on furniture or mdf lol, it was more for my decking when we get some better weather but 80 might be a bit harsh for that too.

    Which Festool sander?

Just to go slightly off topic as i am about to place an order, I am thinking of getting a selection of discs. I am thinking 80, 120, 150, 180 - would you get any higher grit or miss any out? It will mostly be used on furniture or mdf panels and i may decide to do the decking at some point...

    Which Festool sander?

So it looks like the 150/5 should work and then i can add something smaller later on to get into those tighter spots? If anyone has the newer 150/5 EC, does the 5mm sanding stroke make it harder to work with?

    Which Festool sander?

So you think i would still be able to do some finishing with the 150/5?
  13. M

    Which Festool sander?

Thanks Doug, would you spend the extra on the EC model and would you think you could use the 150/5 as a finisher or is it just not made for that? Thanks

    Which Festool sander?

I am looking for a new sander and have decided on a festool, the problem is the amount of choice, i have been researching them for some time but still undecided. It will be used for finishing, sanding painted cabinets/furniture but i also want to be able to use for heavy sanding from time to...

    Trimming door bottom

Do you think a block plane would be best as its small and easy to handle?

    Trimming door bottom

Not much, maybe a mom or 2. I did use the dewalt on another and made a right mess. I know it’s probably user error rather than tool, a hand plane would give me more control I think. mom another note, when scribing the bottom to match the floor, what’s the easiest way to do this?

    Trimming door bottom

I already have a track saw but when I have used the dewalt plane I find it a bit aggressive. It might just be me but I just don’t like the tool. I am thinking of just sticking with the track saw and a hand plane if I need to tweak a little but I might manage without having to use the hand plane...

    Trimming door bottom

Cheers, think i will sell the planer and put towards something else more useful.

    Trimming door bottom

I purchased a Dewalt planer some time ago to take the bottoms of some doors but tbh i think its actually not that good. Is there a better and cleaner way to do this? i do have a track saw that do a nice clean cut and think that might be the better solution.
