Charnwood W619 Or Axminster Craft AC216TS Table Saw

Nope, it's a marketing trick; this sort of thing is happens all the time; done so the product, whatever it may be, isn't launched 'cold' without prior knowledge. I expect other companies do this sort of thing as well - Rob

    Batch run v single piece

Whenever possible on my projects, (which are all individual jobs) I finish all internal surfaces prior to gluing, usually with a couple of coats of Osmo with wax over the top. The finish then acts as a 'resist' and means that glue won't stick to it; you can glue up at leisure (if there is such...

Charnwood W619 Or Axminster Craft AC216TS Table Saw

It probably won't and neither will any other (IMO) small hobbyist tablesaur. If you want accuracy, you need to spend lots of money, Felder style - Rob

    Korean Chest of Drawers

Andy, this project took an age to do and the crucial 'glue up' took place during the hottest part of last summer, which wasn't the brightest time to do it. A couple of pics show the complexity..... ....which, no matter how I sliced it, had to be done in one hit using every available sash...

    Korean Chest of Drawers

I first read about producing quarter sawn pine boards in a Danish book on 'treen' back in the late 70's. It's easy to do, but time consuming; take a pile of reasonably clear (not too many defects) slash sawn pine boards as you'd buy in any decent builders yard. Pass each over the top and then...

    Plum wood.

Plank it and stick it Mike and see what happens. It can't be any worse than Holly, which seasons like it's break dancing on steroids - Rob

    Korean Chest of Drawers

Thanks Custard, appreciated. Drawer pulls were a complete pain to make but are probably (IMO) one of THE most important parts of any job. Many thanks Glynne. I've done quite a few pieces now with this method of construction and thus far there's been no veneer creep. The beauty of using your own...

    Korean Chest of Drawers

Finished and installed, with the help of my neighbour, this massive Korean style chest of drawers. The frame is in 40mm sq Euro Oak, domino'd and glued with Cascamite (owing to it's long open time in the hot weather last year). The panels are 2mm thick bandsawn Brown Oak veneers, glued...

    WOOD GLUE

I've used TB3 & 2 extensively and I've found the same; it's good stuff and it works. Everbuild D4 is as good and around a third the price (at least where I get it from) - Rob

    WOOD GLUE

Everbuild D4. I can buy a litre locally for less than a fiver. For all round general cabinet making and woodworking applications (interior and exterior) it simply cannot be beaten...and that includes laminating and RF curing - Rob

    CBN wheels

Slightly off topic, but I've just ordered the coarse diamond wheel for my T7 Tormek (unfortunately on 'back order' from Ax) which is similar to a CBN wheel. The issue of grinding softer materials (iron etc) from diamond and less hard wearing CBN wheels can be addressed by using a 400g cleaning...

    Plum wood.

I'd bite your arm off for a bit of that stuff Mike :D Lovely stuff for turning but .....doh! you don't turn  - Rob

    Scraper- Stanley 80 or other

I think most tool manufacturers have done a version of the No.80 at some point as it's a good and time proven design. Ax do their own version but I've never used one, so couldn't recommend it, but it's probably OK if you get a decent cutter, emphasis on 'decent'. I've used both the Stanley as...

    new lathe time this year

Ax didn't miss a trick as there is a lathe bed extension that you can get for the machine, which bolts onto the stand in two position. In the lower one, the swing over the bed is 870mm which ought to be big enough for most turners :D - Rob

    Scraper- Stanley 80 or other

The Veritas Cabinet Scraper is an improved version of the original Stanley No.80, in that it has a bigger sole. It does though, have quite a small cutter which makes it difficult to hold for grinding at 45deg so I've replaced the original with a thick card scraper blade that I've cut to the...

    new lathe time this year

Given any thought to the Ax VS 1628 (as was) on a ci stand? - Rob

    True poor man bench.

Agreed, no hard and fast rules on bench height, but if you take off too much, just put some blocks underneath to chock it up again. I went to a Barnsley open day a few years ago and was amazed to see that some of their standard height commercial benches were chocked up by around 50-75mm (or so I...

    Lidl Japanese Saw

Yep, I've used them from WH for years. I splashed out the other day and bought one of the handmade, super fine dozuki's for dovetailing; I also got hold of a couple of other hand made saws - Rob

    Sit down lathe?

I used one just before Christmas; seemed to work OK but a bit limited  ... You can probably guess where   - Rob

One for the collectors and completists
