    Bowl storage?

I was told by a professional turner pal of mine to part turn green blanks to rough size, seal the end grain with say, PVA and then leave them outside under cover and out of sunlight for a year (assuming a thickness of around 25mm) - Rob

    Glass fronted bookcase advice?

I'm in the final stages of finishing one of these: ...and I'm just awaiting the veneered back panels in the post. As you can see, this one is pretty big (the internal shelf is a metre long) and is meant to hold some large photograph albums that are 33cm sq. I've gone for sliding glass doors...

Two face veneered ply - from where?

Yep, I've just ordered some from these people in Falmouth. Not ply, but a good range of mdf thicknesses and different types of veneer on both sides - Rob

    Peacock Oil

Yep, I was a bit skeptical when I first heard about it too and to be fair, I haven't yet dipped a toe into the bottle to try it out but I'm attempting to conjure up a small project to see what it's like - Rob

    Donkey's Ear Shooting Board

So have I but I couldn't resist the topper at Cragside  - Rob

    Donkey's Ear Shooting Board

When I got my much posher :D LN version, the Veritas shooter hadn't been introduced and was still in development. Were I to choose between the two today however, three tosses of a coin would decide it 'cos I don't think there's much between them...apart from nearly £200 (hammer) - Rob

    Donkey's Ear Shooting Board

Thanks Peter, that's going to be interesting to see - Rob

    Donkey's Ear Shooting Board

Thanks Peter; I suspect that the Veritas shooter will work equally as well as the slightly more up-market  LN version. In other words, it will be fine and there won't be a 'problem'. The design of Mitch's shooting board though is pretty good; when you see the video the adaptations that I...

    Donkey's Ear Shooting Board

Maybe as you use it Custard but I can assure you it works fine on this shooting board and I'm sorry, it doesn't need to run on a track. I've been using it on my ordinary shooting board for years with no issues whatsoever. Thanks Sam...there can't be any less of the wet stuff in NI than we've...

    Donkey's Ear Shooting Board

Thanks Sam. I've got Wearing's book somewhere and did have a leaf through it but couldn't find his original design, so I reverted to UToob where there are quite a few different options. Mitch's adaptation was, I thought, the best of the lot but I simplified it by using only four bolts. I also...

    Vacuum Veneering Kitchen doors

If you want to speed up the time in the bag using PVA (I used Everbuild D4) put an electric blanket over the bag followed by an old duvet to keep everything super toasty - Rob

    Donkey's Ear Shooting Board

One of these has been on my tuit list for at least two decades so I reckoned it was about time I made one :D This design, in my very 'umble opinion, is the best one out there by several light years but it's not mine: it's based on one I pinched from Mitch Peacock's UToobing channel; see here...

Jet 16-32 Drum Sander Belt Tracking

Thanks Pete, I'll see if I can get hold of some 50mm tape and give it a go but the belt isn't difficult to slide off the rollers once it's loose - Rob
  14. W

Jet 16-32 Drum Sander Belt Tracking

I don't think so Chas as the belt is only designed to fit one way to get it moving in the right direction. There are big arrows on the underside showing the direction of rotation Thanks Pete, that's a good tip which I'll try on the non-driving roller (the one with the tensioning screws). How...

Jet 16-32 Drum Sander Belt Tracking

Having fitted a new conveyor belt to the Jet 16-32 drum sander (the older model) it's proving very irksome, if not a trifling difficult to set up the tracking. The belt keeps drifting towards the rise/fall mechanism so that every five or six minutes I have to stop, slacken it off and move it...

Your cheapest honing setup? **buying new only**

'Pro ' means professional which means he/or she gets paid for what they do and has nothing to do with the quality of the work produced. It may be excellent, indifferent or poor; the essential thing is that they are paid for their efforts - Rob

    ROS for finishing

Depends. If it's a smallish piece then I may do it by hand but generally I use the Metabo on bigger surfaces with coarser grits and then finish off with the Festool - Rob

    ROS for finishing

I've got an early version of the Metabo dual speed, for for really great power sanding and fine finishing (up to 600g) I use one of these which is quite superb - Rob

    Record plane handle and knob

You might try a few coats of this stuff and finish with a light coat of Alfie Shine after the oil has cured (at least two weeks) and leave the wax in addition for three or four days before final buffing - Rob

    WIP - “Engineers” Tool box

Ta, I can't remember that at all...must be an age thing  I do remember Paul Chapman taking a pic of me attempting to have a shave with his new fangled Domino machine though  - Rob
