    Easiest Blade and Chisel Sharpening

No there isn't; end of story. To agree with what ED65 said above, it's tedious in the extreme to go over and over the same old ground...these 'discussions' have been occurring for years now and similar threads happened with regularity when I first joined UKW ten or more years ago. A sharp edge...

Advice on using a Dust Vortex from Amazon...

I use the Dust Deputy Super and a twin motor Camvac, works fine for most wood waste inc p/t shavings and sawdust. It's a good idea to regularly clean the cloth filters in the Camvac as they soon become a bit clogged. It's also a good idea to fit a PRV (Pressure Relief Valve) on the collection...

Do you need to strengthen a mitre joint

    Wot Mike G and I said ^^ - Rob

    Wet stone grinder

A Tormek but they're not cheap. A coarse diamond wheel comes highly recommended but it makes the whole package even more expensive - Rob

Do you need to strengthen a mitre joint

Long mitres like this are a nightmare to do freehand, but if you concoct a really accurate jig to hold each section, then the job becomes a lot easier - Rob

Do you need to strengthen a mitre joint

Yep, perfect. The ideal way to cramp that would be to insert a removable fourth side at the bottom and use a few webbing cramps - Rob

    1st proper project - HELP!!

Agree with Mike; a tablesaw is unnecessary and this is exactly how I slice up rough boards into manageable sizes. You can even do this on the floor with a couple (three is ideal) bearers underneath the plank if it's too large to manhandle which happened to me once or twice some years ago - Rob

    Help with Dovetails

If Chris is offering to show you how it's done, I'd agree, grab the offer with both hands - Rob

    Help with Dovetails

Agreed, pine with widely space annual rings is a nightmare. Look for stuff with very tight growth rings (slow grown) which is lightyears away from the quick grown stuff. It's out there, but you've got to go and hunt for it - Rob

    JSP PowerCap

I've got the Ax version and thus far it's a pretty good bit of kit; not too heavy and no annoying 'buzz' from the motor - Rob

    Looking for help with hinges

Easy solution here; good quality standard brass butt hinges. Try Marches and look at their top end range - Rob

New look Furniture & Cabinetmaking Magazine.

I was in fairly constant touch with both editors and they remain good friends to this day (Mike lives close to me and is on my Christmas card list) so I often used to put ideas to them about projects and if I received the 'green light' I went ahead with the work. Both editors also commissioned...

New look Furniture & Cabinetmaking Magazine.

I used to be a regular contributor to F&C some years ago when the editors were Mike Huntley and then Derek Jones. When I started to offer copy to the mag some fourteen years ago (memory a bit dim here :D ) the rate per page was £75. It was still the same when I threw the towel in a few years ago...

    Bridge City Hand Planes

That was sold almost immediately last night; probably one of best of KH's planes - Rob

    Bridge City Hand Planes

Reading some of the details on those offerings last night Mike, it appears that many have never been used but have sat in some collectors tool cabinet since the day they were bought. That's a shame, 'cos at the end of the day, they're still tools and IMO deserved to be used - Rob

    Bridge City Hand Planes

On the other hand chaps, check out the latest toys that Matt Platt has up for grabs on Workshop Heaven. Then be prepared to fall off your chair  - Rob

    Bridge City Hand Planes

Spotted on the Ax site, a couple of new BC planes . I can't decide whether I like them, a complete waste of time (and money) or something new and innovative. Views; yay or nae? Mike G ought to have a pair though    - Rob

Polyurethane finished table top finish advice

No real experience of this sort of thing, but it sounds to me that the thick coats of gloopy PU varnish may not have cured between each coat, bearing in mind that this sort of stuff takes hours (or overnight preferably to cure). Without the opinion of pro' polisher you may be on a sticky :lol...

    traditional style shooting board

Probably me and the cack handed way I use the things :D but every 'standard' shooting board I've ever made has eventually gone out of 'square'. The beauty of the FWW version as shown in the vid is that it's easy peasy to plane the fence back to square if it does perchance go on the skew...which...

    traditional style shooting board

As there's no means of adjustment, it will, over time go out of 'kilter'...they always do for some reason. I've made plenty over the last fifty years :D :D or so and the best one by far is the FWW version. Cheap, simple and fully adjustable - Rob https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwYJhfChDdM
