    Help - circle cutting

Thanks, and that makes sense... but my drill is struggling to even cut the scrap piece, so I may need to rethink 😕

    Help - circle cutting

Gurus... Novice woodworker here struggling to achieve.. I'm building a small toy and want to cut some wheels from 18mm ply. Size isn't critical.. somewhere between 60-85mm radius. I've tried cutting with a router and circle template and the results somehow manage to vary considerably in both...

Routing for beginners (and routing tables)

I was in your position about 6 months ago... though probably with less knowledge. On the Trend website there is a list of authorised trainers who run one-to-one and group training sessions (Covid restrictions allowing). Trend courses I spent a day with Tony Chalk near Southampton in his...

    Nail finder

Thanks. There are a few on the market.. but looking for some first hand experience of a unit before I buy it.

    Nail finder

Can anyone recommend a decent, reasonably priced nail finder unit ? I have some salvaged rough timber which I'd like to 'scan' for any hidden nails before I send it through the thicknesser. Thanks in advance J

    BBC The Repair Shop polish

He's very keen on using Shellac which he often applies by brush, but I didn't see the specific episode youre referring to.

    Routing courses

Thanks Custard. I've always been a believer in kick starting knowledge / skills, and I'm very much looking forward to it. Robgul.. I'm doing a day with Tony Chalk of 'Routing Crazy' in Hampshire. I found Tony's details on the Trend website where they have approved trainers in various parts of...

    Routing courses

Thanks. There are lots of courses advertised and previously available.. but very few have restarted since lockdown. I believe that this one still hasn't restarted.

    Routing courses

I fully understand the reason why, but I'm struggling to find anyone who's running a beginners routing course / training session at the moment. Does anyone know of any courses that are being run.. formal or otherwise..? My preference would be for a one-to-one day or a couple of days. I live...

    Bandsaw for the beginner

I would echo the thoughts of some on here about buying second hand if you're a newbie.. like me. I too am looking for a bandsaw.. with precious little knowledge aside from the research that I've done. Last week I came across a 'nearly new' Metabo bandsaw on ebay. Listed at £200 and RRP £550...

    Axminster?

Ive been on the Trend website regularly looking for a router and table.. pretty much everything has been out of stock for weeks.. if not months. I don't think that stock issues are exclusively an Axminster issue.

    Air extraction for small workshop

Well sort of... I have a dust extraction unit - I was originally looking at expelling or changing the air in the workshop to help remove air-borne dust, which an extractor will do. Having read the very helpful comments, I think a combination of the two would probably suit me best.

    Air extraction for small workshop

Hi Fern When I've finished I'll post a photo, though as a beginner - and a first time workshop build - I'm not sure that mine will be the 'road to excellence' to follow. I've built the benches myself, and a mobile unit for the table saw. The table saw is exactly the same height as the bench...

    Air extraction for small workshop

Hi All I've spent the last couple of months settting up a new workshop for woodworking. It's tiny.. 2/3rd of a single garage, so 3m long by 2.4m wide, but it's my first dedicated space so I'm happy with it. I've got a cheap Scheppach vacuum / extractor unit, and that does a reasonable job...

Running end grain through a thicknesser..

Thanks to everyone who commented. I think I'll give the thicknesser a miss on the end grain bit.. and maybe try a hand belt sander if really needed.

Running end grain through a thicknesser..

Firstly.. I'm a complete woodworking newbie so please dont jump on me like a tonne of bricks ! I'm looking to make some end grain cutting boards. I've watched a million videos on Youtube to see what might be within my current skill set. Pretty much all of them use a drum sander to level the...
