Wood to avoid for cutting boards?

I am about as far from an expert as you can get, but I've done a lockdown of research and made a few dozen boards in the last 9 months. I've used Walnut, Cherry, Maple and Beech, all of which I've been very happy with.

    Epoxy help

I'm looking to dip my toe - figuratively speaking - in to decorative epoxy fills. Sort of an epoxy river, but on a small scale (cutting board). I've watched plenty of Youtube videos, but most seem to be US based, and so are the epoxy brands and suppliers. Can anyone suggest a brand / supplier...

    orbital sander advice

Watching this thread as I'm looking as well. Narrowed itdownto the Mirka and the Festool, though I've heard a number of comments about the poor reliability of the Mirka.

    SIP 6" planer

Cheers James, though pretty much everything at this level / price range is out of stock everywhere. But again.. good to know.

    SIP 6" planer

Rutlands have sold out as well, but good to hear that it's ok within it's own limitations. The only planer of it's kind that seems to be available is the Proxxon from Axminster, but at only 80mm planing width it's not what I'm after.

    SIP 6" planer

Edit.. This is also out of stock with no due date, so back to the drawing board.

    Finish for chopping boards

Hi all I'm a newbie starting out in my workshop. I've made a number of chopping boards, but struggling to decide on food safe finish. Most of the (US based) YouTube videos that I've watched finish in 'Mineral Oil' - which is obviously a generic term - and soak the boards until they won't take...

    CNC engraving or alternatives ?

That's fair comment. I suppose that the issue - for me as a beginner hobbyist - is the fear factor that having spent many hours creating something, it can be ruined in an instant. There are many - actually, very many - aspects of woodworking that I'd love to get more skilled it, but as with...

    CNC engraving or alternatives ?

I'm looking at possibly personalising (engraving) small pieces of woodwork (such as for example cutting boards) with names, events, dates etc. I have successfully finished some items with a router and stencil, but this is obviously very time consuming and - in my hands - prone to errors. Is...

    Two Noddy questions...

I agree. I do use it for cross cuts but it's not really suitable for fine work. It's on the list of equipment that needs to be upgraded, but in the meantime....

Saxton blades ordered - thank you.

    Two Noddy questions...

Hi All Two beginners questions - I thought that I'd lump them together rather than flooding the forum. Firstly.. I have a very basic dust extraction system in my tiny workshop which works ok..ish. However, anything other than dust (ie particularly shavings from the thicknesser) blocks it...

    Help - circle cutting

Just an update.. Ive managed to get it done by using a hole cutter.. and buying a pillar drill which was on my list of equipment to purchase shortly anyway. I retracted the pilot bit totally and cut very slowly. As I expected there was a lot of movement in the hole cutter (not to mention...

    Help - circle cutting

I'd love a lathe, but that will have to wait until we move house and my workshop expands from its current 2m by 2.5m size !

    Help - circle cutting

Having watched the very interesting Marcus video I've watched the very interesting Marius video, but the skill level to make that is substantially beyond my inability to route a simple circle using a template.

    Help - circle cutting

No..I have an acrylic circle template and use the same bush and bit that I use for stencil routing. Having tried - what you'd think is a simple procedure - on numerous occasions I can't get a consistent result. I fully appreciate that this is down to my lack of skill.
