    Elektra Bekum 316g

I agree with Fitroy.....but if you can afford it get 2 or 3 blades with a range of cuts, one perhaps wide & coarse & another narrow & fine for curved & delicate work. Also set up is important....there is prob something online, or better still find a friend who knows. Adjustment of tension...

    Bulb Energy has gone pop

Scottish water & Welsh water..... not privatised & seem to be doing ok in the comparison table. You seem to have a short & selective memory Phil....why were rail & steel et al taken into government ownership in the first place. Non privatised French & other European rail companies seem to be...

You are right Ozi & Jonm, best to have a positive mental attitude. But as well as costly carriers, with scenery come tourists, who feel the need to come up when you are mending a fishing boat on a pier to ask 'what are you doing'......... or even just to talk about seagulls...... ...so expensive...

Hmmmm..... drones... F10 winds.... cannot see they will be salvation to the UK fringes. Here in the H&I we get used to paying extra, but there is not even a close comparison between carrier prices and I am continually phoning companies to suggest they use another carrier from one who charges £40...

Can someone explain elm to me, please?

Curious that....elm was used for some sea boats...especially along the south coast where it was later dislplaced by larch ....& pitch pine. I have had a Hastings fishing boat of elm on oak & that lasted very well. But I had a pitch pine boat that had rot in the plank edges but I suspect sap wood...

Can someone explain elm to me, please?

Carriers are not that expensive ........ unless you live on one of the Scottish islands .... £28 to deliver a couple of tubes of wood glue......... but with regard to wood, getting a few big lumps of mahogany from Bristol was not that expensive.

Can someone explain elm to me, please?

You might try Cromartie Timber, Strathpeffer. They are knowledgable .... & reasonably priced. They also take the time to cut out curvaceous or difficult timber to best advantage.

Best wood glue for outdoor projects?

Would endorse what you said about the strength and waterproof qualities of Phenol Resorcinol glue. we used it in laminating boat timbers......just was not aware if the health issues...... our tubs did not appear to have warnings. Might explain a few things. BTW with the gate..... ...if you are...

    Lots of hot air

Thank you for the advice Thingybob....have been trying that for many years & it works...& even got paid for it. You are right about the wood prices ..... luckily have some in stack that will last a few years or until I drop off the perch.......& fastenings...but that is covered in another thread.

    Lots of hot air

Little did I think when joining this forum recently for wood lathe reasons that I would be drawn into a discussion on population control & climate change. Funny old world innit...... tho unfortunately probably not that much longer as far as humans are concerned.

    Lots of hot air

Not too sure how environmentally friendly that is ..... but it is certainly not that new...... a number of folk in the Highlands have been running on ethanol for years.....

There are usually fairly precise requirements for scientific reporting of research. This tends to point to a general direction for what is 'fact'. Tracking back through evidence gives a fair indication as to what research has been competently aquired ...and that which is not. Seems to operate in...

    Lots of hot air

well just for the count Rorschach, I do. I find the 'facts ' that you put forward poorly researched and generally unsupported by science.
