What ideas have you had for reducing Electricity consumption

Careful the flickering does not put you to sleep at the cooker......just sayin.....

    War office chairs

........was thinking of you sitting on them rather than working on them.. have always wanted to take a closed look at the Victory timbers, esp in the bilge area Did you do the work in the aft areas? Dockyard has certainly changed ...but then so have the ships....

    War office chairs

Nice idea. I assume from your name that you may have polished a number of MOD chair seats in the past......

    War office chairs

Agree with XTiffy... esp abt stain. Something warm & woody to get rid of the awful bleached look & bring back a 'wood' colour.

Nothing to see here just an empty packet of Rawlplugs

Strangely came across the Rawlplug drill box a few days ago, 3 different sizes...always tricky to swop the bits. As Spectric says...not always cordless drills. For me the dangerous years were those between holes drilled with a hand drill or brace & bit & the wonderful low voltage cordless. These...

    Ventilation for built in wardrobe/closet

Could try Davey & co, nice brass boaty vents??

    Spots all along wood

Sorry to be critical but I tend to agree with Ttrees ....similar to Iroko but not it. Not well finished, the grain has picked up. Looks like old, dried timber with mold spots. How heavy is it? You could do a quick density check??

    The phone is ringing…

Side stepping the French issue..... & Brexit implications.... It is the green oak bit that interests me. I have crawled arond the interiors of a couple of cathedral roof spaces looking at the construction & joints. I would assume that during the lenthy build time the spire & roof were open to...

    Peat bog alternatives?

I am also happy to plant the wood in the bog above the croft. It certainly transforms the oak & hazel that comes out of it. I quite like Chailatte's idea though, but commercial peat (as well as not being environmentally friendly) is cleaned, and it would seem to be the acidic tannins that do the...

Unsorted Redwood for External pattern 10 doors

Would suggest redwood will need a great deal of care and preservative as has been mentioned. Also tends to move a bit. If you can get it, there is larch in Wales and someone may be cutting & drying it. It is durable and more sustainable than some other timber.

    Wooden shower cubicle, finish advice

It looks as tho water is getting up the end grain of the boards butting the shower tray. You would have to dry that completly to use resin or varnish & find some way of sealing that grain. Both would prob still sit on the surface of the wood & you would hve gaps between. You could just go down...

    Mortgage rates / interest etc

I tend to agree with Spectric that we are programmed to aspire to property, but unfortunately there is little incentive to put out property as a long term let without conforming to a rash of rules & restrictions. I also feel that Akirk's & Spetric 's comments are linked by the idea of...

    Mortgage rates / interest etc

The problem is JC that betting a Sunak government will last 2 years. Listening to pro Johnson MPs this morning, they are not going to compromise and may push for a GE....or at least make a non BJ government unstable. That instability may mean a few more interest rate increases might be needed to...

    Wooden boat repairs

Thanks for that. I have seen outboards on this type of boat - on a frame & board, but they are not pretty . A small electric engine would be ideal with solar panels on board to charge during the long northern day.

    Wooden boat repairs

Lovely shape. Bit of a twist to the garboards tho! Good luck. 2 questions ... What wood is the keel? How would you fit an engine to a new boat? out board, or bore through timbers for a small inboard?

    Wood id

If it is very heavy/dense then Jarra....quite splintery...hard to cut & plane but gets a good finish. Durable. Do not inhale! Does not look like iroko, too red ...but it may be the camera.

    Marples firmer chisels

I suggest Shipwrights chisels, as Mike said. Heavy with leather washes, used to cut joints in oak deck beams & frames. A lovely set. I have some similar myself.....& still used.

    Sodium hypochlorite

Try Glagow. They have a much more industrial heritage and I seem to get anything I need in that line there. The only difficulty for me is the expense of getting it up the road.

    Hello from Essex

I agree with Adam but just wish I could offer support in a material way rather than just shout encouragement from the sidelines..... but it really is so cheering to see the photos & the website Pressbrake. I wish you well.
