    melting/removing contact adhesive glue

I have - in desperation - used petrol to loosen contact adhesive. It seems to work & should not harm rubber.

Help with selecting Iroko for garden gate

......you could let it go silver, oil it with Jacob's BLO & preservative or paint with oil paint to fit in with the rest of your colour scheme. Laminating wood for gates seems a recipe for uture work to me, unless done very carefully & protected. I would be interested in what you choose & how...

Help with selecting Iroko for garden gate

Depends on how old you are and the machinery at your disposal. Iroko will last but suggest not for the reasons others have given. Redwood is easy & pleasant to use & can be painted. Personally I would use larch as I can get it, it is pleasant to use & more durable than redwood. It would...

    Wooden boat repairs

Lovely job! With a heel like that I hope you have somewhere flat/soft to park it.

    Finish for Wooden Planes

I use a bit of teak oil & BLO.....but I suspect human sweat & the oils in it give that deep authentic finish.

    Which courier(s)?

Another check is who can you get hold of if there is a problem.... & there will be if you are sending a lot of loads. Evri seem to hid behind a wall pierced only by computer bots responses Royal Mail are tricky but you can get there ....& they do compensate well for the few disasters. It also...

    Squirrels.

If I lived near you AET1 I would consider it overly humane for you dogs to deliver such a service. Peacocks are very unpleasant things to have around. I believe there is a market for the tail feathers.... win win I would suggest.

    Wooden boat repairs

It might be worth taking a look then at some Ian Oughtred designs. They are mainly ply/epoxy construction, well described & straightforward to build. Most are also designed for UK sailing of one sort or another.

    Froe

Lovely cabinet. Did you seal it with anything?

    Froe

His family had a business, part of which was making hurdles & gates in Dorset, so assume it was for splitting chestnut & similar. I also still have, & occasionally use, his draw knife, which again was probably also used in that line of business. Lured by the bright lights & big cities he latter...

    Froe

You are probably right Jacob.....I still have my grandfather 's froe & although nicely dished on top is still usable... although since coming north its use is a bit restricted....

    Froe

You need a Beetle Jacob....not a metal hammer.....as has been said will ruin your lovely froe over time.....

    Is it any wonder why.....

Depends on who is in power....the mechanisms exist to check on your vote. It a potentially powerful law to deal with a virtually non existent issue....or does it just keep lid on the problem?

    Is it any wonder why.....

The problem is that how you vote is not private. The number of the voting slip you are issued is put against your name on the voting record so how you vote can be checked. I have tried to stop it being done but was told I could not vote without it. It's purpose...to avoid voter...

    Is it any wonder why.....

Apologies for going back to Terry's post...have been busy & there were some key points in the debate... There has been massive fraud..... billions spent on useless PPE covid kit ....& fraud on unregulated & poorly supervised pandemic loans. See BBC for this. FT recently ran some articles...

Using green wood for outdoor structures (like wood shelters)

I suggest you find out the larch species that you have before you decide to use it. European larch is durable - resists rot. Japanese & other ornamental species are less so, in spite of what some 'timber' blogs say. You will find photos online to help with the species.......needles & cones help...

Interesting video Puddle. Thanks. Beautiful bit of design & engineering. We seem to have lost many of those skills as a nation.

Working to close tolerance with wood

....which like many RN sayings has more than a grain of truth. Those of you that work with wooden ships/boats will be at the opposite end of the scale to clock faces thinking about what gap or tolerance to leave in say carvel planking or frames, so that at launch or soaking the vessel is not...

    Moving granite worktop

As Fitzroy said earlier, the key will be to release it from whatever has bedded it to the base. After that things should be easier.....hopefully. You will need bodies to carefully lift it vertically for moving. I have used a thin coarse tooth Japanese saw in the past to release from bedding...

Medical discussions that veer off track...

Our local GP is a boat owner & keen amateur woodworker so medical issues often take second place if he has any pressing concerns. I was also pulled over by the police with a blue light...one of the constables...another boat owner needed to talk about epoxy glues....
