    How many clamps?

Yep the gunwales are structural (one section either side of the upper edge of the 5mm ply side panel. The stiffer I can make them, the better the hull resists rig tension, I've half a mind to hide some glass fibre in the joint while I'm about it. MikeG-- one every 4 inches? Or as many as I can...

    How many clamps?

I'm about to peel off the gunwales from a mirror dinghy and re-glue them. The old glue - probably polyester resin or aerolite has debonded in places and I suspect the only reason they aren't looser is the screws every six inches or so. Anyhow, off they must come so they can be properly bonded...

    BAS316G Band Saw

Those look just the job. I'd been debating what to do about mine. The previous owner had fitted different guides but then failed to clean them. At all. They were so gummed up I put the old ones back on but I was hoping I'd stumble on something easier to adjust. Fab. G

    new to routing

There's probably loads of other examples of poor practice to choose from but I'd recommend having a watch of this just in case you were in any doubt about how quickly things can get out of hand if you lose concentration..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xseF_8mUIJg I love my router for the...

    Making custom spindle moulder cutters

Silicone would work, but not a cheap option. Laboratory putty is cheaper as it doesn't have to be certified for use in the mouth and lots of craft suppliers carry this sort of material. Alginate doesn't have sufficient dimensional stability if the impression is to be sent away anywhere. It...

    Steam bending Large timber

Lou demonstrates both approaches in these clips. The timbers are probably similar dimensions to what you're proposing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50uXPPt8-VI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JFePos8RQQ Enjoy. I could listen to this guy all night. In fact, I think I may. G

    Pacemaker

His cardiologist will be able to advise him. My understanding is that modern pacemakers are much much less susceptible to radio frequency interference than the very early ones. Indwelling defib types are a slightly different case. It is sensible to make sure before working beside a machine with...

Ot of date Chestnut Acrylic Sanding Sealer.

That is really handy info, thanks for posting. I'm going to print it out when I get home and keep it in the garage for reference. G

    Recommended sawhorse/sawhorse brackets?

I've got a mirror dinghy to renovate over the winter and I need some new trestles to sit it on while I work. It would be useful to have it low enough to reach the inside while it's the right way up, but be able to raise it up a decent bit when it's turned over to do the bottom (some jobs are...

    Router Trimmers with dust extraction

I have the makita and like it. Personally I steer clear of sets of bits. I think you can get better value and higher quality just buying the ones you need for the work you do and not having the other odd ones gathering dust. Someone will be along shortly to direct you to Wealdons- there is...

amalgam Sorry Bob, there's a long running debate in our house whether it's pedantry or attention to detail! G

    Finishing timber with epoxy (fibreglass).

Largely depends if it's going to be painted afterwards. I always seem to find fairing compound under the paint when I've done little repairs on sailing dinghies. There's an episode of the sport dory build on tips from a shipwright where he fairs his lay up with a heavily filled epoxy and then...

    GT85

GT85 is a pretty effective water dispersant, and I gather it contains flakes of PTFE which are left behind when it dries so it won't have much effect against rust. I use it to clean (not lubricate) bicycle chains. It's actually quite useful for cleaning the frame as well. BUT it is particularly...

    Card scraper

How many burs should one prepare at one time? Or in other words is it ok to roll a bur on both sides of either edge? G

    Thin Air press Kit

It depends on the size of your project but I'm inclined to agree with Custard. For my composite lay up I only needed enough pressure to squeeze the excess resin out of the cloth. A veneer would be a totally different proposition as its physical properties are not nearly so tame.

    Thin Air press Kit

I used one to skin a rudder blade with carbon fibre. My experience was that it was easy to use, produced sufficient pressure for the lay up and sealed well initially. I left it overnight but by the following morning it had lost vacuum. For my purpose this was fine as it held pressure long enough...

    Types of wood for panels

I think that could look great, and would highly recommend Bay Plastics. They're really helpful, with a massive range of options and sometimes 'offcuts' which are ideal for small projects. Good luck with it G
