Moving to Brazil: selling up or using a portable power station?

Might make sense to have a look at how expensive equipment is locally, could be a shock because Brasil has quite a tax on imported goods.

What woodworking did you do today?

Glued up the little box out of cedar of Lebanon, box joints, yesterday. And, planed the sides flush a few hours later. Smells really great, lovely wood to work with. Only regret is that the stock was 19mm thick, and I left it that, maybe a little bit clunky for a small box like that, need to...

    Clifton 3110 ?!

Recently bought a Record 042, and I like it enormously. Initially, not ever having seen one in the flesh, I thought it a better replacement for my Stanley 92, but it is a totally different plane. I guess the 311 is sort of in between. Quite helpful to have around, I think, cleaning up rebates...

    Do I need a No03 hand plane ?

I have a no3, but very rarely use it (but it's a Nooitgedagt, which amuses me, being dutch). I really like the 60 1/2, and also the 102, indeed as others have said to knock off corners. But if you do not have a no5 yet, get that first. I think a no6 is too unwieldy for general use (granted, mine...

    Shed insulation help

Built my own shed last year and spent a significant time learning about insulation and barrier foil to prevent condensation issues. Indeed from the inside out, plywood or osb, fully closed foil-insulation with no voids anywhere stuff it well - foil with slits to allow moisture to escape- outside...

    Best dovetail saws?

I have the Veritas, and like it a lot. Also have a razorsaw that's sometimes also advertised as a dovetail saw (the thin flushcutter), but I think it is too flimsy and thin for a dovetail saw, also not keen on a pull action for dovetails. Also have a gents saw somewhere, which I might give a try...

    CAD - Computer Aided Dilemma?

I worked at an industrial design firm, and although the designers there were mind bogglingly capable sketch artists, common practice was to create a bare bones skeleton in 3d CAD (pro/engineer, nowadays called creo parametric), and use that as an underlay to create a sketch. It is more efficient...

    New plane is bladeless

As we have established in this thread, 30 years, not 60 and it says Record, none of the Indian copies are marked Record or Irwin, and none of them are blue. And the Indian ones have the single prong nicker, rather than three prongs for the Record planes. It is known that the older Record planes...

    New plane is bladeless

They really aren't that rare. At the moment there are 16 of them on ebay, granted some of them are incomplete or offerings for parts (plane blades, the rods that go with these planes). Wait for this one...

    New plane is bladeless

http://www.record-planes.com/record-no-cs88-calvert-stevens-smooth-plane/ Norris adjuster, not sure if they also included the Bedrock style frog adjustment. All, in all, meh? :)

    New plane is bladeless

The Calvert Stevens was a very expensive plane indeed, which was probably used as a "halo" product for the rest of the products. It helps to date the plane though, end 80's beginning of 90's? I am not joining the choir of "you got ripped off and the seller is a crook". They should have checked...

    New plane is bladeless

+1 And as mentioned, if you buy it new, the plane blade sits in a small brown envelope in the box, so it is not mounted in the plane. All planes come with plane irons, you can sometimes order extras, but there are always one or more with the plane when new and complete. Wouldn't go with a...

    New plane is bladeless

That's a Marples Record, and it is a real one not any kind of knockoff or anything. I bought one at about half that in the same condition on ebay, I would guess that is about 80's-90's? Later than that and it would be Irwin Record. The colour is lighter blue than the older planes. Do not...

    New plane is bladeless

I buy on eBay regularly, and there are certain words that people think mean something, but actually do not. "Vintage" is one of them, I just ignore that type of words, same with "good condition", facts not fluff. But yeah, if you are not happy with it, and it was misrepresented, return it...

    New plane is bladeless

It is quite a new version of this plane, but the box could have told you that. But, yeah, it should have been delivered with a blade. A fine plane though, might need a little bit more work to get it finely tuned. Did the ebay auction have clear pictures?

    Honing Guides

Eclipse no.36, works better than most of the chinese clones I tried. Bought a Eclipse 161, figuring it would help me with a consistent angle on skewed chisels, but that one sucks. The ball doesn't rotate smoothly enough, even though mine is still properly round (as opposed to riddled with flat...

    Drills

Found a 80s Fein drill at a thrift store, very nice unit (came from my employer actually, still had the calibration sticker we use on it). Supremely accurate, but only takes drills up to 6mm, and has an on off switch, no softstart or variable rpm. But for 15 euros, very nice, and more accurate...

    Record Skewed Rebate planes (712, 713, 714)

Interesting, will need to give them a try! I'll see if I have skewed rebate planes amongst the big lot of dutch wooden planes I bought a while ago, and really did not do much with until now :D

    Record Skewed Rebate planes (712, 713, 714)

I actually have a Record 44c which i modified by mounting a saw blade to the main body, a la quangsheng 043 clone. Works well.

    Record Skewed Rebate planes (712, 713, 714)

Found it, wow, that is a lot of money. Either the modification of that 714 was a common thing to do, or, he picked it up on ebay not too long ago. At least I think I saw that one. Bid on a 713 shortly aftwards that went for 66GBP (which was higher than I was willing to pay for it). Didn't know...
