    Random Orbital Sander, which padsaver?

Yes I think so. The festool has a super hard backer, I am not aware of any others that do and I don't have the festool to compare with. Just one of those things that you need to be aware of when using it.

    Random Orbital Sander, which padsaver?

I used a mirka one from rest express. My sander is 150mm but they list a few options. https://restexpress.co.uk/View/22170/mirka-pad-saver-disc The only thing that I would warn against is the slight softness to it which has the potential to round edges. That actual pad on my sander is the...

    Pen Kits

Taylors of mirfield certainly used to do deals on 5s. They may well do you something on more if you ask. Beware of comparing apples and oranges though, I would only buy 20 or 30 if you had tried a couple first, even if you overpay for the first few. I found a huge quality difference between a...

    Rubio Monocoat

I have used monocoat a few times on pieces, but only as an amateur. I haven't used it on dozens of paying jobs. I really like it and it has been hardwaring on everything I used it on besides a handful of coasters. The coasters were very much a test and will have been abused with spills. On my...

    Mobile Phone Advice

I also have a one plus. I chose it because I didn't want to pay apple or Samsung money but to be honest I would have another on merit alone. When this one breaks or fails to be supported, it is several years old now and still going strong. The camera was a particular selling feature to me, I...

Couple of interesting French polishing articles.

I have used both meths and ipa to mix flakes. I am not an expert in any way and I usually brush it on as a finish but I didn't notice a difference with mixing it. acetone is a different solvent, I would avoid that. I have no idea if it would work but I would guess not.

    Inca bandsaw

most parts, I can't help with. knobs I would expect will be a fairly standard metric thread, I would be surprised if you couldn't get one off the shelf somewhere for a couple of quid. the guide blocks- I made some from Lignum vitae. they were easy to make, cut roughly to size and refine with...

    gloves

Anybody got any recommendations for waterproof general handling gloves? Ideally available from Screwfix or Toolstation because they are local. I found these Watertite Grip Gloves Large but I dont know if they are any good. I want them for gardening, I suspect mainly collecting up leaves on...

Cutting steel rod (16 mm) so it has a square end

My first choice would be to buy the 16mm cut to length. eBay sellers are usually willing to do this, even if they charge a few extra pence. Alternatively, I would use my proedge belt sander because I don't have anything else suitable.

    Flu ***

what does this mean though? I am not NHS, nor a politician, just a member of the public. As a result, I dont have the full picture or any inside information. As I see it, the best PPE isnt available. There are reasons for this ranging from bad luck, incompetence, etc but the fact is that it...

Replace table saw with bandsaw and track saw.

the advantage of the table saw is that you can set a fence and get simple straight cuts of the same width all day long. With a sled or mitre gauge and a stop you can cross cut to a set width over and over. no need to measure or work to marks. the bandsaw can cut deeper than the table saw, so...
