    Deks Olje D1

Has anybody used this product? I want a finish for external oak. I dont mind maintaining it from time to time but I dont want something that needs stripping before I can do so. It is a wine barrel chair, so has both horizontal and vertical surfaces- I think that the horizontal aspect is an...

How to Line Boxes & Drawers

yes exactly. I cant see the scale of yours, but you will end up with 3 strips of foam say 1" x 1" x 3" glued to a backer board. This stops them separating when you try and put the material in between. I dont glue the material to the foam, only at the start and end point on the back of the board...

How to Line Boxes & Drawers

I think that your attempt is ok actually. the obvious way of getting a round shape is to use round foam underneath but I think that a square shape with possibly just the corners knocked off works better and gives a tighter gap between the "rolls". if you dont use glue you can reuse the material...

How to Line Boxes & Drawers

the way I do it is as follows. sorry no pics but if it isnt clear I will make one and photograph it. start with a piece of thin board a little bigger than the area that you want to fill. this would be the size of 3 rolls in your pic above, and I have typically used something like very thin ply...

    Adirondack chairs

well today I bought my wine barrel for the weekend's chair project. it took a bit of getting apart but is in good condition. the seller had cleaned up the outside a bit which saves me a bit of work. my car is in the garage, so the wife's car has a lovely wine smell in it. I had permission to...

    Corded Or Cordless

I wouldn't kit out your workshop yet. Most things are available on 1-3 days shipping, there is no discount for bulk purchases and brands have their strengths. I have just bought the Milwaukee kit that you mentioned. Amazon or Mytoolshed in the UK were cheapest if it helps, shipping to Ireland...

    Lidl or MacAllister Plunge Saw

the main issue for me with the Parkside is if it breaks, you will get your money back but you will have to wait a while to get a replacement. with macalliseter you have the option of refund or replacement. As for the saws, I haven't used either so no comment.

Head Stock Adapter for Parkside Lathe

it is 3 messages for the PM system, so you are nearly there. it may need to update overnight before you get access.

    Garage roof quote

It is worth checking with the local council. All are a bit different. West yorks charges, but it is cheaper than getting a skip. It needs to be double wrapped and you have to prebook- minimum charge 200kgs. It would be almost as expensive from memory to have a test and prove that fibre cement...

    An idea to prototype/manufacture

you will need deep pockets for much of that so make sure that the market needs the invention before you spend much. there was a book recommended on here called "a better mousetrap" which I keep meaning to buy and read. Support and Guidance for Inventors may be a decent place to start for a fiver.

How many of you would enter a tools raffle/?

another perspective however. On Facebook, I am a member of the local community group and there is somebody on there who regularly runs raffles and bingos (ie choose a number). they seem popular. £20-50 of prize, all manner of hampers, bottle of JD, etc. so each to their own, you may be able...

    Wood Identification. What is this?!!

if I were guessing I would suggest greenheart. But, that is a guess rather than any form of knowledge.

    An idea to prototype/manufacture

I would break it down into what you need- is it fabrication, machining etc. There are likely lots of local firms or individuals around that would do small jobs, it is knowing what to look for.

    An idea to prototype/manufacture

All I meant was to find somebody to make the clamp, somebody else to make the frame, somebody else for the cover, etc. Then nobody can work out what you are making. There is a lot to this, and it is different if you are looking to patent the idea.

    An idea to prototype/manufacture

start with some none disclosure agreements. Is it a single object, or made up of parts? At this stage I would spread them around a bit so that nobody has any idea what you are producing. it is hard to offer much advice without knowing outline details, but could you make a prototype using...

How many of you would enter a tools raffle/?

I agree with most of this. I am less well equipped, but I would rather select the tools and models that I want and I cant get excited about having a small chance to win when the organiser is taking a decent margin. same goes for scratch cards. raffles for charity or local causes are a donation...

    Milwaukee

I was open minded, but when I posted the Milwaukee was in the lead. I will order it tomorrow and should have I for the weekend. I have looked on YouTube at a few comparison videos. Makita/Dewalt/Milwaukee all seem to have their fans, and all come out as top 3 in different comparisons. I have...

    Workbench design questions

I wouldn't buy a new chisel just for the extra mm, I would but a 1/2" or 5/8" pig sticker to cut the mortices with because I much prefer using them to other types. it isnt necessary though.

    Box joint router bits

I would make a simple jig and use a standard straight router bit. adjustable to any sized/height box with the exception that you might want to size it to an exact number of finger.

S Tyzack Try, Jointing & Jack planes - requesting help establishing the exact model number
