I knew it would be on the small side, but ...

Handy for pushing pen tubes in the hole if you drilled the hole a bit snugly.

    Holly Tree

Holly is a pain to dry and to maintain it as pearly white it needs cutting down at the right time of year and kilning quickly. You may get away with storing it vertically. If you can get away with it not being super white, it is a nice carving and turning timber.

    Online timber supplies

Around me the builders merchants or specialist fencing suppliers were cheaper. Stock has been iffy though, may be better now. I needed half a dozen lengths of decking at the start of the first lockdown and had to ring round and take what lengths the place had. Everywhere else was out of stock...

    Going rate for foreman

Does he though? He is a subbie and can continue being a subbie (with its associated risks and advantages), it isn't as though the option is the foreman job or no work. He was made an offer and it didn't work for him. If there is a bit of wriggle room, make a slightly different final offer or if...

Routing for beginners (and routing tables)

I was going to suggest the rutland one but it seems to have got very expensive.

    Benchworks tool cart

Was the weight manageable? The cart bit would be the most useful to me I think

    Benchworks tool cart

I was looking at the official sack truck thing, but it seems a lot of money for what it is. I like to take the mft top, saw horses and a few tools outside and this looks a convenient way of doing it. I may do the odd job for a friend as a favour and have to take all the tools I need with me...

    Benchworks tool cart

Has anybody made the benchworks festool mobile tool cart? It looks useful and compact but I am interested in feedback from users.

    finishing advice

I would probably go with a microcrystalline wax. what I am not sure about is whether you need to remove every trace of the old wax first. beeswax should be removable with white spirit I think (but am not certain, so do some research) so it may not be a huge job. The other thing that you dont...

    finishing advice

probably the wrong wax. pure beeswax, or a beeswax polish is not really ideal because it is hard to get a good shine and the melting point is a bit low.

    Advice on retaining chamfer definition

the board looks good though, even if the chamfer becomes a roundover

    Advice on retaining chamfer definition

it is difficult to do, but in short you can't really sand them. you can get a Festool sander with a very hard pad which gives you a chance but that is expensive and I am guessing that you dont have it! I would sand the edges and then chamfer them, either with a router, a block plane or even a...

I would be interested to see some build photos Derek.

    Tempted with this...are you?

it depends on what you want to do. for limited applications, I think it could be better than a workmate, but overall I would rather have a workmate from when they were good. the lumberjack looks very tippy and I wouldn't want to do any form of hard work on it. The workmate is generally good...

    First ever project attempted

I quite like the dowel runners. they may move a little to start with if they stick a little and need a little sanding but after that should settle down.

    The Lock-Picking Lawyer

I am sure that there are various different standards of locksmith, but I doubt that 95% plus would try to pick a lock. They would almost certainly just gain access by drilling or otherwise and replace the lock. a few might try one of those bumping tools for a minute or so. £40 including the...

What are the basic 'dogs' I need for my new bench? Theres alot of choice!!

you may find that the workmate isnt that good as a base. I can't remember if mine was too small a footprint and was a bit tippy, or whether it was a nuisance not having enough access to underneath. Either way, it didn't work for me (same model as yours I think too) I would budget to make or buy...

    First ever project attempted

remember above all: your wife asked for a jewellery box, and you have delivered one. only you see every tiny fault in it, she only sees a box, extra special because you made it for her. personally, I would avoid flocking and would suggest using something like suede or pigskin to line the...
