2020 Secret Santa ......and we're off!

Just be careful everybody that second class post seems to be very hit and miss. I am on a coffee forum and we ordered some beans that were posted to members. Some received last week, others still waiting (me included). Probably worth the extra few pence for first class. That doesn't seem to be...

    Compressed Air Fittings

Male Snap End A Airline Fittings top item I think. Under usual circumstances, machine mart are pretty good and I would take in the item and try the fitting. if MM aren't local, any stocker of airline fittings should have these. You could probably borrow one from another air tool that you have...

Bow in sheet after ripping on panel saw

Felder Panel Saw K700s "curved" cuts problem??? is worth reading through. The consensus seems to be that it is both common and material based

    Your Cars

Nope! I have never driven a lotus but always admired them. I don't doubt it is excellent to drive and there is no denying that it looks good. For me personally though that appeal would have worn off when I was sat in traffic, cold and lost. Oh and once I had managed to actually get into it (if...

@MusicMan do I recall that you were building a harp?

    Your Cars

I may be alone in this view, but my best car is my current car. I change it every few years for one that is a few years old when I get it, and without fail things have moved on to the point where I wouldn't want to go back to the previous one. current one has start-stop technology, good...

    Sheet material recommendation

I would probably use MDF. I would pay the extra and use the moisture resistant version. Decent ply tends to be more expensive, at least where I buy it. Cheap ply is a nuisance to work with. You could then paint it or not, depending on your preference.

I've been in love with Dolly Parton my whole life.

“Life is just a series of peaks and troughs, and you don't whether you're in a trough until you're climbing out, or on a peak until you're coming down. And that's it, you know, you never know what's round the corner. But it's all good. "If you want the rainbow you've got to put up with the...

What are the basic 'dogs' I need for my new bench? Theres alot of choice!!

Look at YouTube for either "part dogs" which will give you the basics in about 5 mins or some of Peter Millard's videos which show you the basics plus those being used in practice. Honestly though, with a mft table, 2 long and 2 short dogs, you could have anybody making square and 45 degree...

    Thin sheet material

I wouldn't go in the direction of buying thin boards. I would suggest thicknessing with a hand plane instead. Minimal expenditure, a bit of a learning curve but it will put you in control. If you buy 10mm boards they will move all over the place and you can guarantee that they will be the wrong...

    This price is OTT

Partially true, probably. I have a few festool bits that I have bought over time. Each one I researched and bought based on that research. There is no denying that festool and Apple are expensive. But if you want a sander and blindly buy one from the festool catalogue, you will get a very...

    Withdrawn Lathe Chuck

Great news. I have just had a look at the spec and it seems very similar to my jet mini. 1"x8 and 2mt. You will have no issues getting extras for that if you need them. If and when you move it on you won't lose anything much on it. There is a manual online from axi if you google Axminster mc1018.

    Withdrawn Lathe Chuck

I would do without a chuck on this lathe. If you like turning you will instantly out grow it. It isn't worth spending time and money getting a chuck for even if you can keep it for a future lathe. To be blunt, I would take the lathe back and use the money towards an alternative. You may well...

    9mm dia. aluminium round bar

I know that you said 9.5mm is no use but could you tell us what the application is? How long are the pieces? How accurate must it be. I think I would probably put a length in a cordless drill and remove half a mm.

Does this screw centre go inside this set of jaws?

I have one and used it with the jaws on I think. I don't use it very often. Mine came with the vicmarc chuck and standard jaws.
