Anyone got an idea how to find this leak?

my parents had an underground leak (not heating related). the household insurance policy covered the finding of the leak and remedial repairs, but not the cost of fixing the leak itself. I know that this is commercial, but there may be some insurance in place that may help. the insurance co...

    Norman Bird's factory, Birmingham

I haven't got it home yet so any vanilla smell hasn't drifted the 55 miles to here! I think the custard factory was originally in Birmingham, but that was Albert Bird. The picture of the sign writing was "Norman Bird" rather than generic "Bird's" It could well be one of the thousands of small...

    Norman Bird's factory, Birmingham

I have bought an item that was stated to have been used in Norman Bird's factory, Birmingham for many years as though it was widely known. A google search didn't bring up anything and I am wondering if it is familiar to anybody with local knowledge. It doesn't make any real difference to me...

    SK100 Chuck equivalent.

Find the thread of your lathe- probably m33x3.5 if it is new, but possibly 1"x8.- Then a huge range of chucks are available. Axminster will obviously recommend their own. The sk100 is about £140 when I looked online. You may get something a little cheaper, the record power ones for example. I...

    Are you “E10” ready?

it is off topic, but I wonder whether a fuel stabiliser such as Mountfield MS1211 Universal Fuel Stabiliser 100ml would achieve the same thing- it would make a gallon of fuel £11ish, so not unreasonable compared with the aspen or stihl stuff. for regularly used equipment it is probably not worth...

    Are you “E10” ready?

I would use the 2 stroke version to save mixing oil and petrol, and mainly because I use the hedge trimmer once or twice a year and the fuel sits in it for the rest of the time. Aspen is said to burn cleaner and to not go stale for a number of years. The hedge trimmer is the only 2 stroke...

    Are you “E10” ready?

Aspen gets very expensive though in a lawnmower. I plan to use it in my hedge trimmer because a gallon will last for a long time, but to use it in the mantis tiller or a mower at £20 a gallon is too much. I haven't prices the stihl equivalent but presume it is a similar price.

    Car purchasing advice UK

We had a small VW up! That we had as a lease. It was a couple of years ago now but the monthly cost was less than we were making for maintenance keeping an old Mégane going. We handed it back after 3 years with no regrets. Paying the balloon payment wasn't worth it for us, it was approx the same...

Have you considered something like corian instead? An offcut may actually be cheaper than a piece of Formica.

    Small Optical Centre Punch

I have the soba version from Axminster and it is brilliant. I made one for a secret Santa present too, and it was fairly straightforward to make. the hardest part for me was polishing the acrylic and putting a dome on it of the right focal length.

    Bench Dog System

I would have thought that if it is lifting, something to prevent this should help. It may be no more that a plate screwed to the dog when it is in position. I would look at the features of the commercial ones and see how your compared. I think you have probably solved the main parts already.

    Confused about screws

tool station used to do some excellent paslode branded torx head screws. sadly they stopped selling them, and I am now running out of several sizes. the downside of torx is said to be when there is paint in the head and you want to remove them. I dont doubt this to be true, but most of my use...

Black Walnut finish to retain Mat appearance

I would look at Rubio monocoat. I have used it on a few timber types, although not walnut. I have seen it used on YouTube on walnut though, including tables. When I have used it, it is a simple to use and tough, Matt finish.
