    Lets talk hedge trimmers.

I have a makita petrol one, which I was given by my dad. it hasn't missed a beat, seems well balanced and easy to control. Were it not for being given it I would probably have gone for a stihl because my other garden kit is that, but I would certainly consider Makita based on this trimmer.

Drill and impact driver combo kit recommendations

I think it is worth getting a good one, because they do get used a lot. I haven't used or compared the Makita, Bosch, Milwaukee etc but I had a cheap Stanley one and it is a toy in comparison. I am sure that the branded ones are all perfectly suitable. I have the Bosch version of the one that...

Drill and impact driver combo kit recommendations

I recently bought the Milwaukee fuel drill and impact driver and cannot fault it so far. Possibly a little over budget.

Wine Barrel Restoration: Looking for Plumbing Tips

when you say that it wasnt watertight, have you filled it full of water (and topped it up as necessary) and left it for a couple of weeks to swell up? as they dry out they do shrink a bit, often the bands slipping off as a result.

    Another timber ID...

The problem with pallets is that they can come from all over the world, and be made from whatever is readily available- often we don't know the origin, and if told the name, we wouldn't have heard of it! Beyond brown hardwood you may never know the answer!

    Is this asbestos?

The alternative is not testing it. Buy and use some appropriate PPE, assuming it is asbestos and dispose of it accordingly. I did this with my garage roof. I was unsure whether it was or wasn't asbestos. Even with a test certificate showing it was not asbestos the local tip would have charged...

    Sourcing some hex bar

metals4u would be my first choice but they only do 6mm. I dont know how much you need, and how much work would be involved in reducing this down. ebay would be my second choice if metals4u didn't have any, or for small quantities that dont justify the postage cost from them.

    Exterior door

I am 99% sure it is solid. it has the horns still attached on one end and I can see the through tenons. it is half of a pair, so has been rebated- I cant see any sign of veneer. if I do look at the top and bottom, would it be obvious?

What about straight linseed oil? I don't really want a colour, a brown for now, fading to a silver is fine.

    Exterior door

I have a hardwood glazed door which I believe is meranti. I want to use it on a lean-to greenhouse structure. The door will be hung on the solid wall rather than from the greenhouse frame and the greenhouse isn't being used for growing, more as a conservatory so it won't be high humidity and...

    Chuck - Jaw compatibility.

there was this Chuck Jaw compatibility I have found that the Vicmarc jaws seem to offer something for everything I have needed. they aren't cheap though, particularly in the uk. might be cheaper to buy from Timberbits in Australia and pay the import charges.

How to prep this wood as a table

You may lose most of the extra 40mm with trimming the bark etc. Then run it through your machine.

How to prep this wood as a table

how wide is it? the simplest solution to flattening it is to take it somewhere with a big enough machine and get them to do it.

Have you used a pick up / delivery firm

for some things I have used anyvan or Shiply. I find it more of a nuisance trying to coordinate everything though- the collection address wants to know when the courier is coming, the courier wont commit to anything... I have just hired a van through hertz. I got it from 4pm to 945am for £50...
