Electra Beckum HC260 - keeps blowing fuses!

Few, I'm glad you found the manual and it says its a 16amp rated machine. I've just read an old article from Woodworkers Institute who tested your model in 2008. It doesn't refer to the fuse rating but the testers comment was that the two pin plug can be installed the wrong way and starting...

Electra Beckum HC260 - keeps blowing fuses!

Can you provide more info like, has this machine worked correctly before and using the same power socket and cable/plug ? Has it recently started doing this? At this moment I wouldn't change a thing as you need to find the route cause first.

Table saw mods & overhead dust extraction (lots of pics)

You've done a splendid job. If you are intending to use your saw as the main workhorse, its likley that you will have, at some point, cut tall timber, say on its end for a Tennon or finger joint. This will necessitate having to move your extractor hood out of the way to allow a passes over the...

What blade sits on your table saw on a daily basis?

It depends on what you do and how you work the wood. For me I use my table saw for medium to fine work using my cross sled and have 80 Tooth ATB blade . Sometimes I'll remove the cross sled for normal use but still use the same blade. I use my large bandsaw for most other tasks (ripping/resaw)...

    Alternative joining method

Totally agree. Has to be one of the strongest joints we can do and once mastered is pretty straight forward to do and can be applied in many guises.

    Record 52 vice

If your assembly is the same as in the photos Nigel refers to it's very different to mine. They must be different models so I can't compare. My guess is your problem is a spring tension and wear and tear issue on the main worm assembly. I would dismantle and give it a proper clean then...

    Record 52 vice

I've got a couple of these and had to completely strip them down and clean etc. Obviously I can't see your detail but my suggestion is to follow some logics. Make sure the main support sliding bars and the cast iron guides are not too worn. If they are you will get a lot of up and down play...

    Damp workshop - Improvements ideas

I built my workshop about 10yrs ago. My good friend owns his own insulation business. At the time I pondered over what best to do for achieving, well as best you can, a constant temperature with minimal heat exchange. His simple advise was to insulate, insulate and insulate and that I use 2...

Waterproof wooden shelf for shower cubicle

If it's in the cubicle, put simply don't use wood. If your bathroom, in general, is open to mould etc don't use wood. Practicality over your heart needs to shine through on this one. Use protected metal or glass.

    JET JWBS-16X

Also have a chat with Dave at D B Keighley Machinery. He was a Jet supplier and has his own engineering workshop for repairing etc wood machines. He's helped me in the past and will give good advice. It maybe he could even repair your old one. Good luck.

    Best budget 1/2" router bits

Having bought sets of Trend cutters some years ago, I can honestly say don't. Many of them have not been used. What I should have done is work out what type of work I was going to do and buy cutters for those purposes, and overtime just add cutters as needed. I would also say that...

    16amp socket advice

Very informative Roy and I'm pleased you wrote this as some if the articles I read are scary. Many seem to rely on the fact theve not had an issue then that's all fine then. Well done.

    Mid-level Bandsaw

It certainly looks a great saw and has a good technical specification. The 220v is the one to go for and note the wheel set, mitre gauge and light are optional extras. I'm sure it will last a very long time. Be sure to spend time checking and setting it up so it's spot on. Check-out Alex...

    Mid-level Bandsaw

If you have that sort of funds get two saws. One for curve and general work, and one for ripping and resawing. Using one machine and having to swap blades for different work types is a pain and a job you can do without in a busy day. I'm lucky in that I have the space and appreciate others...

Bench Grinders - best of both worlds?

You need a grinder in your tool arsenary. As u38cg says second hand is good enough but get a fine and course set of wheels. You need to buy a dressing tool as well to keep the stone true. Using a grinder or belt sander for sharpening blades is not for me. By all means use it to grind down a...

Tips re: pocket screws at 50mm and 63mm - can I substitute kreg pan-head screws for washer-head?

Yep the screws are not cheap. Try Appleby Woodturnings or Westcountry Machinery4Wood. These do some good offers from time to time. Be mindful of some infereror screws as they can sheer-off easily and boy is it a pain to sort out - especially with the longer screws. As a general rule of thumb...
