    Parkinson's no 61 vice

see you're in bradford - I call that town the birthplace of British cast iron vice-making - Parkinson and earlier - if you have too many - is there a Bradford industrial museum that highlights this and could do with examples I might have one or two to give)

    Woden Vice Restored.

Brill - stands are much rarer than vices -- I see a good Parky on the Woden stand Unusual colour, but I quite like it - might try that on my next vice.

    Down sizing question.

I used to go to Sweden to meet work colleagues. Never heard of 'death cleaning' there (although aware it's a big topic here) - but I do know many Swedish families have a big 'cottage' in the wilds, often with associated garages etc, all full of generations of 'stuff'. ps one of my solutions is...

    Metal band on chisel handle?

Yes - pewter - low melting point, thus poss to cast into a groove and hole in chisel - as a chisel maniac, I've had a couple of these - both with box-wood handles (handles split, despite wilfin) ---- hardly seems worth the effort to make holes and groove then pour metal (presumably using some...

    Bowyers flote

the one I had was just 'straight across' - ie no burr they'd all have to be at an angle for a burr to work quite thin steel - I did no sharpening, which would be a real pain

    Bowyers flote

something v similar was used by French stonemasons - obv bigger and more robust - some include teeth, some just a flat scraper blade ---- 'chemin de fer' or similar - used by masons to give a final smoothing to limestone blocks etc as well plaster as descr above - common tool once I tried one...

    Minimal Tool Challenge

a much bigger box I went to Newfoundland Canada for a year or two late sixties, early 70s - housebuilding in the city was usual N American tech, but in the small outports there were still some full two story houses built the old way - basement foundation rocks and/or poured concrete, then...

    Big Chisel!

looks thin for framing or the usual slick apps -- easy to break in heavy duty use it's v wide, but I'd guess a pattern-maker's paring chisel - used almost like a plane where plane access might not be poss lovely thing

    Wood stove idea

way back I lived for a while in Newfoundland Canada in - while modern homes had oil furnace/boilers, the older homes and weekend cabins mostly had woodburning stoves and it was standard to have a length of the steel chimney pipe running through the room - some even with a purposefully designed...

    Woden 189B & A130 bench vices

or stay on this one? -- if I remember, the Woden 130 was one of their attempts at a quick release without separate lever - turn the tommy bar back a bit to release (like some USA QRs) --- all the mech has to be very clear of muck to work well

    An idea what this is?

looks like one of the earlier, better ones now test out that cam you describe - I've had 2 of these - fine but wouldn't hold the swivel position with moderate twist pressure - let me know if you find a solution (or maybe yrs is fine)

    An idea what this is?

looks like one of the chinese copies of the Swiss/German jewellers vices - the earlier chinese ones were actually quite good, but some later versions from far east abs rubbish however I'd like to know how to make that swivel lock hold - see what you can do
