    Punching tool for ferrules

make sure the brass tube for yr ferrules is sturdy (thick) enough - seen plenty of thin-walled ferrules (esp later Marples) where it's obv that wood expansion /contraction has cracked them I tend to use a drop of superglue or resin glue ps nice job so far

Fitting rasp or file to wooden handle

Interesting - tell us about the properties of the sulphur when cold - adhesion, gap-filling, strength etc. ps I collected way too many 'pig-sticker' mortise chisels in poor shape - decided on a major re-handle project using some broken ash & hickory pick handles (right oval profile) --- I had...

    Cooking oil

I do that but wouldn't use it for planters etc - if it gets on any leaves etc they turn brown so I'd not want it getting into soil etc.. Also makes sure you do it after some dry days so it just soaks in to the wood. Think carefully about the environmental impact. Re the used cooking oil - I'd...

If only --- (any off-grid members?)

wind turbine electricity generation and EVs were fast-tracking over 120 years ago - if only cheap oil hadn't been found, we'd be in a much better place

    Hand mitre saw blades

one poss is to find a length of broken band saw blade and cut into the required lengths - which can then be trimmed and rounded on your grindstone - drill or punch holes at the required point --- doesn't cut quite the same but works fine (I have done this for use in Euro-style frame saw)

    Battery Fire Risks

we certainly need to up battery safety re fire risk, but just imagine having a tank full of highly combustible fluid in your bike/tool/car. my car was written off recently because a diesel Range-Rover parked next to it and burst into flame (electrical fault most likely) (no, not Luton airport...

External "french door set" - off the peg recommendations?

careful with the locking system - my daughter lived in a shared house targeted by thieves (after iphones or car keys) with french windows with a "sophisticated" top-middleandbottom lock but they knew that the pvc door could be 'sprung' to negate all this --- insurance made the landlord fit new...

    Wild Service boards

other woods used for tools - fruitier (pear etc), chene (oak), ash (frene) and beech (hetre) in rough order of cost - looks like I'm trying to show off, but just been reading an old French tool cata, so let me off -- also use box as UK but not so common and some form of holm oak?

    Wild Service boards

I think this is the same as cormier (French), which was/is much used for the best quality wood tool handles/plane bodies etc

    Surform with a difference

Cintride (of Bakewell, Derbs) made tungsten carbide grit 'blades' of 3 grades to fit the Surform (UK invention, company later taken over by Stanley, who then dropped their similar Stanley-Shaper line). Useful kit.
