    What higher-end bandsaw?

I have a Hammer N4400 as well. I bought it at a show and the model on display had the roller guides, which I thought were standard. However, like most German/Austrian products (especially cars!) they were an "optional extra" and it came with the adjustable pads that I've never really gotten on...

    'Wave' cutting Forstner Drill Bits

How did you get on? I've been looking at the Fisch bits, but I would have to swallow hard before shelling out £200 + tax & shipping for a set of 16. I currently have a set of bits I bought from Axminster some years ago and they don't seem to sharpen well, hence my interest in replacing them.

The shame of a tidy workshop

I have a fairly big workshop and these days it gets well used. I have extraction for the static machines and for sanding I use a shop vac, but inevitably the shop becomes untidy and messy during projects. I do put my tools away at the end of most sessions, just so I can find them the next time...

Whats your favourite penknife or multi tool .

Coming back to the original post, my "Swiss Army Penknife" is in my desk drawer and is the first thing into the suitcase when I go away (must go in the aircraft hold, though). Invaluable thing. It may be a bit crude for brain surgery, but open-heart stuff - no problem. Everything else is a...

    Mortiser or Domino

I'm not convinced about dominoes, but then I don't use them. I use a biscuit jointer for sheet materials and a morticer for solid wood. They seem to cover everything I've wanted to do for the past 40 years, and I like the "wiggle room" you get along the length of a biscuit to align joints. The...

Single piece of oak for side table top - cupping a worry?

I always make a couple of angle iron brackets that sit within the frame of the table/cupboard so they can't be seen and mounted 90 degrees to the grain. I drill a round hole for the fixings nearest the front and elongate the rest of the holes, so the wood can shrink a bit if it needs to. I use...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

My grandson (nearly 5) is into Lego, so his dad asked me to make a "Lego workstation" to keep all the bits off the floor

How do I make this handrail?

I think your approach of making the bottom in one sweep, possibly one piece right through if you have the timber (for strength) and the top as a capping is the best approach. If you shape the capping as a rectangular section (straight and curved) you can use a router with bearing guided bits to...

How to protect surfaces while spraying in multi use shed?

I use one of those cheap blue woven tarpaulins. I think mine was 8m x 4m and I split it to give me two 8m x 2m strips with eyelets on one edge. I just banged nails into the ceiling joists in line with the eyelets. The nails remain whilst the tarps can be removed and folded into a box when not in...

    Fixing marble

I understand that some adhesives can stain marble to the extent that it can be seen on the face side. When my floor was laid (15mm marble) the guy doing the work sealed both sides with a sealer to stop the adhesive discolouring the marble and showing any pattern from the trowel marks on the...

    Spindle moulder cutter blocks

I have the same cutter block which I has an 11/4" bore, so I use reducer collars to fit it to my 30mm spindle. I'm told it only needs one cutter as it's almost impossible to align 2 cutters without the location (and retention) pins. This makes it suitable for cutters that I grind myself (only...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Side view as requested, but this time with the steps in the retracted position - about as small as it will go. I did use threaded inserts to hold it together, so it can come apart for long term storage (until the next grandchild needs it!).

Post a photo of the last thing you made

My 18 m.o. granddaughter likes to see what mum and dad are cooking, but can't see the worksurface. I was asked to make something she could climb up and stand on without falling. It turned out a bit over-engineered (something I am often guilty of) so she could use it until she is 22 years old!

    lathe upgrade

If you are in the market, I would certainly have a look at the Stratos FU-230 as well as the ones you mentioned. I have been using one for a couple of years now and find it excellent. I bought the bed extension and leg as well, though I haven't had cause to use them yet. I actually bought mine...

    MRMDF kitchen plinths/kickboards

I've used MRMDF kick board in my kitchen and it works well provided you seal it well. I sprayed mine with a pre-catalysed lacquer, colour matched to the cabinet colour, but if that is beyond your facilities you could try an edge sealer and apply self-adhesive aluminium foil (the stuff they use...

    Cutting cement board?

I used a diamond disc in a 115mm grinder with a Herzo dust control shroud and shop vac. It cut OK and left a reasonable edge, though I wouldn't want to do it indoors. I think you will struggle to get a joint that won't be seen under paint. You might consider tiling on top of the board, which...

2.5in bandsaw table inserts - where to get them in UK?

I find off-cuts from laminate flooring make brilliant inserts. Use them upside-down and the bottom surface is smooth and hard. My Hammer bandsaw uses round inserts, so I use an adjustable fly-cutter to make them, but I guess I could use a lathe or even the bandsaw itself with a simple jig.

Have you tried Hafele? They have a pretty good range. https://www.hafele.co.uk/en/products/handles-knobs/7cf0028ac9f0bbc41b8a34ef7858d86a/

Oil Free Piston Vacuum Pumps for laminating wood over a form?

Before you start spending lots of money try using the compressor (connected in reverse) from a fridge or freezer. You can usually find somebody offering one "free to collect" on Gumtree or maybe at the local tip. Getting the compressor out is easy and then just take the body to the tip. There...
