Chance would be a fine thing! My ex-wife ended up with my pension pot - and most of everything else - when we divorced. Then she kicked the bucket just before reaching pension age. Left her "lodger" a nice house and a tidy sum though....

If it's any consolation (and I know it isn't) you can actually still get 2 bottles of Scotch for a tenner here; last year Lidl were flogging VAT69 at the equivalent of just under £4.50 a bottle.

We have security shutters which are made of aluminium sandwiched around foam insulation board. They seriously reduce sound and heat loss, are pretty much light proof and lower our insurance premiums.

My experience of renting in the UK is from the 70s and I've never been a landlord there, so I can't add much directly to the discussion. I did think about renting my UK house out when I moved abroad but the regulations and stories of "tenants from hell" put me off. However, I am a landlord...

I agree - I usually install a pop-up extension lead with additional USB charging connections into a corner of my worktops. It doesn't really interfere with the available space but gives me 4 sockets with just a push if/when I need them.
