If it were 7F they wouldn't have even got wet - the river would have frozen solid. It was actually 49F/9C..

That would be a good riposte - but only if "imponderable" meant what Mr Moore seemingly thought it did. An imponderable is something which is difficult/impossible to evaluate or assess; it has nothing to do with being able to say what the imponderable actually is or what is imponderable about...

A little truth for a change.

As far as I'm concerned, we're all missing the Big Question: if the predicted "climate catastrophe" does indeed come about, would it actually be A Bad Thing? The world population of **** "Sapiens" is manifestly too big, and as a species our behaviour is out of control and unsupportable, so...

A little truth for a change.

Some people will believe any old junk they happen to read on the internet; a case in point is fake quotations attributed to Aristotle....

@mc281 I hate to tell you this, but it clearly isn't all Latin to you either...

    Greetings from Romania

Welcome, Brad - we're neighbours and I recognise much of what you describe - although to an even greater degree - here in Bulgaria. There are some wonderful woodworkers, and other craftsmen, here who produce miracles with kit that would be in a scrapyard in Western Europe - but sadly I am...

Just to stir the pot, has anyone noticed...

I'm sure that what you're saying makes perfect sense to you, but unfortunately it doesn't affect the reality of legal documents, or indeed of the English language. There have been countless court cases hinging on the ambiguity of unpunctuated documents, with the actual meaning being a matter of...

Just to stir the pot, has anyone noticed...

The myth is that they were REQUIRED to be, on the spurious grounds that lack of punctuation makes the intended meaning completely clear; the reality is entirely opposite - correct punctuation, and accurate drafting, are what remove all possibility of ambiguity and "interpretation"...

While you're rolling on the floor, you might want to brush up your reading skills. A property deed isn't a statute, unless you're Bonnie King Charlie in mufti. The fact that you've "never heard of that one" is down to ignorance, which is easily remedied once your mirth has subsided and you're...

And that absolutely sums up the state of what passes for education nowadays.....

I'm afraid that you've been misinformed - although you're by no means alone. Legal documents are, and have always been, punctuated, albeit sparingly; the object, as in any piece of written English prior to the rise of our present-day generation of illiterati, has always been to clarify the...

Royal Mail - complete ban on bladed items from 22nd April

All the items listed above - with the exception of some of the more extreme Section 5 weapons - are freely available across the counter here in Bulgaria. However, most people of any age see no need to carry a weapon of any kind - apart from our local "ethnic minority members", who specialise in...

Royal Mail - complete ban on bladed items from 22nd April

Here in Bulgaria, the post - and courier services - won't take firearms. As a shooter, I find it amusing that they're quite happy to collect and deliver "musical instruments" from and to gunsmiths, gunshops etc.....the couriers will even wait while the "guitars" etc are wrapped up in front of...

I thought that pound notes were a thing of the past nowadays - and who hangs money on their washing line anyway?

    Air tank

I'm not sure what caused @Sideways so much mirth - my airgun compressor can fill a scuba breathing tank to 3,500psi....and it dries the air as it compresses it.

Just to stir the pot, has anyone noticed...

How about the poor old pensioners - they get derisory rises, when the government has a groat or two left in the Treasury to throw them, but never seem to get anywhere near a living income. Sympathy is all well and good but fine words butter no parsnips....

The kind of compressor used to fill PCP airguns might be useful for this...

Lidl PPTSA 20V-Li cordless plunge track saw. Quick review.

Isn't there a shipping company operating between Germany and France, Spain* et al? Living in Bulgaria, I buy a lot of kit from Lidl.de which I get delivered to my shipper's German address and a few days later it's here in Sofia. *I'm pretty sure that the company I use, Gabieli, ships between...
