    Self employment

Restoration is beyond my skillset at the moment😆. I'd outsource the spraying, much easier

    Self employment

Facebook and the like get a fair hammering with advertising. Yes the flow is tricky. Building it up is the key I think, like trying to start a train. With the kitchens I would most likely outsource the fitting, I'd build the cabinets. I could outsource the design too but what's the point if I...

    Self employment

Yes it is frustrating when someone says "but IKEA only charge £250 per wardrobe you want £1000". Go to IKEA then 😆

    Self employment

I have had a few people recommend me and leave reviews etc, just trying to build up the momentum. Yes the best customers are the ones that pay well and say do it properly. I've had a few people asking for just cheap things, e.g. wanting cabinet doors for £40. Needless to say when they get the...

    Self employment

Hello, Having recently going self employed at the middle of this year, I'm a little underwhelmed at how much I've done, i.e. not enough. I've had around 4 jobs completed and done, 3 of which were from MyBuilder. How long did it take everyone else to build up a constant flow of work? I...

Anyone had any luck selling up-cycled furniture?

Thanks for your responses! Yes transport can be a tricky one, especially on larger pieces. I keep my eye out on Freecycle but they go so quickly😆. So trying to get there in time is the key. I'm quite lucky in respects to paint as I usually have a fair bit left over in nice colours from other...

Anyone had any luck selling up-cycled furniture?

Hi, I'm looking at getting old pine furniture from eBay or freecycle etc and giving it a quick sand and run through the spray booth. Has anyone ever had any luck doing this? I've seen it done before on tv but I'm always skeptical of what they show and how much they 'really made'. Anything for...

    Rail square reviews

I was also looking at these, can they guarantee a square cut? Only thing I can think of is using parallel guide and then squaring the ends on the miter saw. Max capacity is about 260MM on the miter saw, it's an old Elu made in west Germany but still works very well . Any panels wider than...

    Rail square reviews

Hi, Looking for some advice on the TSO GRS-16 rail square (TSO Products GRS-16 Guide Rail Square). I make a fair amount of wardrobes and am currently outsourcing the cutting, while this works at the moment the time taken to order and pick it up is something that I want to reduce. I was looking...

    Worktop bracing

Thanks just what I wanted to hear, it's a good job you realised the metal flat bar was there before you cut down the glue line ;)

    Worktop bracing

What's everyone's thoughts on using metal braces on large widths of worktops? I've had a pine top bow on a piece I made about a year ago now. Luckily it is just a personal piece. It's made from 20mm PSE redwood, a width of about 400mm front to back and about a meter wide. It's bowed about 4mm...

Advice for airless sprayer for water based paints

Hi, I'm thinking of switching to an airless system for my spraying. I'm growing tired of having to thin down my paint to almost water to get the compressor to pump it out. I mainly use paints such as Tikurilla Helmi, medium base type paint. It would be preferable to not have to thin it down...

    Drywall under stairs

Yes I never thought of that, much better option than going head first with the drywall saw

    Drywall under stairs

Lol can never have too much storage space!

    Drywall under stairs

Hi, I'm interested in putting some under stairs storage under these cupboards but am a bit cautious of what is lurking behind the drywall. As far as I know it's just stud wall with a small frame at the end on the inside of the cupboard to make the small flat section. Can anyone confirm this or...

    Weather proof drawer slides?

Hello, Has anyone used stainless or zinc plated drawer slides externally? I'm planning to make some drawer boxes in an outside unit but aren't sure 'whether' or not they will be ok in outside conditions? No pun intended. Leaning towards the stainless drawer slides to be honest as these seem...

Loose tenon joinery on Sapele frame? Sensible or not so sensible?

Yes never thought of that actually, would be a good idea to stop the loose tenons coming loose over time. Thanks.

Loose tenon joinery on Sapele frame? Sensible or not so sensible?

Yes what I was thinking, was thinking of some oak dowels for a bit of contrast, makes it more of a nice feature too instead of trying to match the grains and hide the dowels.
