Replacing a window in a door

I'm no stranger to B&Q but I've never seen anything like this. Instead I've spent today routing some timber to the shape needed. I'm out galivanting tomorrow so it'll be Saturday before I get back to it. The plan is to make two wooden frames, a bit like photo frames but bigger, that will screw...

Replacing a window in a door

Thanks Pete, your link wouldn’t work for me - not that it matters - it would have been a bit far to go! I’m starting to think that I’ll have to make them myself. I’ve got some bits of an old teak bench top that might be OK for it. It’ll give me some practice with a router - not a tool I use very...

Replacing a window in a door

I think some photos might help: The door has a double glazed unit with a plastic grid on each side to simulate smaller individual panes of glass. The first picture shows the outside still intact. On the inside I have removed most of the plastic (In truth I didn't realise it was all that was...

Replacing a window in a door

No, sorry I've not explained very well. It's not the glass I want it's the plastic frame that holds it in place in the door. That's the bit I want to replace but can't find one.

Replacing a window in a door

My back door has a double glazed window in the top half divided into pseudo small panes by two plastic grids, one on the outside and one on the inside. I want to get rid of the grids and just have a straightforward rectangular window. I know how to remove the plastic grids, but can't find where...

Am I the only person depressed by the number of comments with gender or racial stereotypes in them?

What is the point of this unpleasant drivel? I’m no defender of Jacob or anyone else here, you can all defend yourselves, but this seems pure spite. Why? If you can’t attack the argument, attack the man?

PLEASE HELP if you use British Hardwoods (Keighley)

Excellent firm - thoroughly recommend them.

How to use push sticks to cut wood safely on a table saw.

Yes, of course it's possible. An argument for buying some spurious piece of equipment, on the grounds that it would make working safer, would be an abuse. I agree totally with your premise that health and safety should not be overlooked or ignored, but it is possible to take advantage of...

    Lathe purchase ideas...

I've never used either lathe, so bear that in mind when judging my comment. Looking at the Axminster lathe I think that the variable speed is achieved by a split pully mechanism. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I've been told that this method of changing speed causes undue wear on the...

    Rose Engine Rosettes

Martin thanks for that suggestion. I'm a retired member of the Register of Professional Turners supported by the Worshipful Company of Turners but I don't know any of the Ornamental Turners personally. (It's the turnings that are ornamental, not the turners). It's another avenue to explore...

    Rose Engine Rosettes

Thanks all. At the moment I don't know enough to design my own rosettes, so can't really ask someone to make them for me. Doug you're right I know Gerry. I'll contact him. Thanks for the kind words about my demos!

    Rose Engine Rosettes

I'm trying to build a Rose Engine from various bits I've cobbled together but I don't have any rosettes. I imagine that they have to be very accurately made and I'm not sure I have the wherewithall to reproduce that accuracy so I've turned my thoughts - shock, horror- to buying them! But where...

Unequal bevel on Sorby Bowl gouge

They meant to avoid a concave cutting edge. The cutting edge should be straight or slightly convex. A concave BEVEL is pretty standard. I think your best bet would be to find an experienced turner and have lessons as soon as covid allows.

    Bowl Size Ponderings

When I was selling bowls I kept records of everything for the taxman. The best sellers were bowls around 10 inches diameter. Smaller bowls also sold reasonably well but bigger ones were difficult to sell. Big ones were very good, however, for catching a customer's eye, so they weren't...
