    Horseshoes

Looking at your photos I think you are worrying too much. The decorated one, which is presumably sprayed, looks very authentic - and that’s an important factor. If you spray paint them silver or such then you make them ‘false’ and once you do that the bride might just as well go for plastic that...

    Things that bug you!!

I get quite unreasonably annoyed by reviewers that say 'I don't know if it's any good because I haven't used it yet.' Screwfix is rife with them. WHY SAY IT????

    Things that bug you!!

I think that's what I said but without mentioning how the flag is attached to the pole. My mental exercise is done - I'm flagging!

    Things that bug you!!

Droogs, I think you mean two dimensions, not planes, but that aside you've given me a lot to think about. I've printed flags and fiddled around with them and I'm now convinced more than ever that the flag can only be 'upside down' when it is attached to a flagpole. Flag A shows the flag...

    Things that bug you!!

I'm becoming confused by the union flag and 'upside down'. Looking at the illustration of the flag, it is possible to turn it upside down in two ways: it can be rotated or flipped top to bottom. If rotated, it remains identical. If flipped, it would still be identical if viewed from the other...

    Circle cutters?

Several good ideas above but I'd like to sidestep them by asking 'why circles'? I buy abrasive in rolls about 4" wide and use a simple jig to cut 2" strips off this and then cut them in half to give 2" squares. This takes two cuts with a Stanley knife to produce two squares. I leave the corners...

    Shooting board has me stumped.

OK. Just a thought. It’s the sort of mistake I’d make. 🤔

    Shooting board has me stumped.

I’m a woodturner and do very little ‘flat stuff’, so I can’t guarantee that I know what I’m talking about, but could it be that the two edges of the board being planed are not parallel to each other? The cut would be at right angles to one edge but not the other.

    Anyone made a wooden head?

I once made a hat block for a milliner who specified that the wood could be anything so long as it was soft enough to stick pins in it. After a bit of research online I found that poplar is the usual choice (IIRC).

    Wall cupboards with no wall

Didn’t you have to sign some sort of tenancy agreement that laid out what you can and can’t do?

Cutting large thread on small lathe?

I designed and built my own vacuum chuck system around some M33 x 3.5 nuts I found online. Details on my old website www.bobchapman.co.uk I can't remember where I bought the nuts but I think its on the website. Look under the 'technical' section. I should add that the website is no longer active...

    Working with Hawthorn

I call it ‘poor man’s boxwood’. Lovely fine grained timber.

Holding the lids of boxes for working

But I think I see a design problem. You carefully size the lid to fit the box and then want to make a continuous cut to the edge of the lid - which therefore must make the lid diameter smaller. It won’t then fit the box. ??

Holding the lids of boxes for working

Combine the double sided tape with the jam chuck. The jam chuck centralizes and holds the lid and the tape also holds it. When cutting the curve, continue the cut into the jam chuck, removing the wood of the chuck. At this stage the lid is held only by the tape, but you should be able to get a...

    Record Power excellent service

I bought a RP DML320 woodturning lathe at the weekend, not new but a very good price. It needed the bearings replacing and the vendor had obtained a new electronic control box under warranty but never fitted it. The speed readout didn't work although the speed could still be varied. I've never...

    Timber for roof finial

When I had my business I made dozens of replacement roof finials. The ones being replaced were mostly Victorian and mostly pitch pine. I also used reclaimed pitch pine from a firm a few miles away and never had any problems. No reason why they shouldn't last another 100 years or so.

    Banjo cam won't tighten

I once had an identical problem on my Vicmarc. The problem was dust collecting on the cam lock. Tightening the cam simply compressed the dust and didn't hold for long. A good clean improved the grip immediately. Strangely, it never happened again.
