Isopon body filler - what a 'con' !

Yorkieguy your answer is impeccable and I cannot fault it's logic. Well said sir! Tom - I'll shut up. You are wrong but I've had my say. Bob

Isopon body filler - what a 'con' !

Well, since you ask. Your original statement about volume and weight actually is nonsense as a general statement. It is true for water, but only at 4 deg. C, as others have mentioned above. In order to show you how wrong you must be, PhilTilson quoted two extreme examples 1cc of hydrogen and...

Don't be silly! You are talking nonsense!

Yeah, but what does it taste like?😊

    Olive paper weight

The turning is fine but the bug is superb! Maybe you've missed your calling in life! My first thought was that you'd set a real bug in resin but I see not. Great work.

Sold Record Power PT260 Planer Thicknesser

Record Power PT260 Planer Thicknesser. In general it’s in good condition, the only damage is to the fence adjustment mechanism (see photo). I’ve no idea how this could have happened and suspect it was already done when I bought the machine, new, from Record. I only discovered it when the machine...

    What constitutes 'handmade' ?

As low skilled and cheap as that, eh?

    Gouge Sharpening Jigs

Phil's right, no jig needed for a roughing gouge.

    Have you noticed....

Thanks Phil. It’s subtle but I see it now.

    Have you noticed....

Phil, would you explain what the difference is between these statements . I’m not challenging what you say, but I can’t see the difference.

    Wood advice for pedestal

Go to someone who deals in reclaimed timber and get some pitch pine the right size.

    Prosecco wall

I'd go for a horizontal wall instead of vertical. The glasses will simply stand up, held in place by gravity. Some people call these horizontal walls "tables". (Sorry!)

    Successful drilling

Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread and to the OP for raising the issue.. In my ignorance I always imagined it was sensible to drill big holes in small stages, but never could do it very well. I understand why now. Live and learn, eh? I'm 76.

Mild Steel Angle Iron and Brass Screws

Even if you put a barrier between the screw head and the steel, the actual threads of the screw would still be in tight contact. I don't see what you could do to prevent it.

    Axminster prices

To me it sounds like Axminster have confused a 'two for the price of one' offer (where you can buy two different items but only pay for one of them - usually the more expensive item) with a 'buy one get one free' offer (where you buy two identical items but only pay for one of them). Take it up...

The things your parents said to you...

There's not enough room to swing a cat. I later realised it must refer to a 'cat o' nine tails' but even now I visualise a moggy being swung round.

Which type of bearing to use?

Thanks Betterbro. I think we are singing from the same hymn sheet.

Which type of bearing to use?

"No vertical play" is an absolute. When I claimed no play I meant " not enough to matter". In use the tool is supported by the toolrest in the usual way. Woodturning is not precision machining. The result will still depend on the skill of the turner. This arrangement simply makes it easier. I'll...

Which type of bearing to use?

BMS now you remind me. There's no play in the arrangement, it works very well.

Which type of bearing to use?

My setup is made of mild steel. The large sections are 30mm square, the thinner links are 30 x 8mm. From the toolpost end the sections are 250mm, 200mm and 150mm long with 35mm overlaps between sections. The overall length is 540mm at full stretch. The 'exploded' joint shows the arrangement...
