Missing vice mystery - Help appreciated

That's the same as what I have in my bench and I'm happy with it. It is a bit smaller than the bigger ones (obviously) and you might want a larger one. Small hole in your bench can be enlarged. My brother bought me mine and as close as we are I doubt he paid more than 30 via Gumtree. Gumtree is...

Charge for using copyrighted photo PicRights

Wow that sounds super annoying. We get told at work not to nick images from the interweb for this reason. It's very tempting to ignore the rule. Thanks for the reminder, and I hope your friend resolves this in an cost neural way.

    Advertising Standards Authority.

I have the misfortune of my energy supplier going bust and I am being transferred to EDF. Here is an excerpt from their latest email which might help explain what green energy is:

Finish for oak that in a bathroom (Belfast sink stand)

Won't oak stain black within a couple of years? Good plan to steer them away from it.

    Excel

Getting a bit off topic but FME is my favourite software for this. It's historically a GIS data tool but works as well for any data. Basically it reads any format, transforms and write to any other format. No association with the company, just a very happy user. See safe.com

That sounds like a good candidate for a database.

    Excel

The answer to your NHS excel use, is that they probably used it because they were working at pace without the time or resources to set up the data management in a robust and reliable way. They probably did a prototype in Excel hoping to do something better when the pressure dropped, but it never...

Sad story of my uneven bench top

I know that feeling. If in doubt I sharpen up.

Sad story of my uneven bench top

I quite agree. My excuse is that I bought a rubbish silverline no.4 years ago. I never could get it working nicely. Or if I did, some other adjustment went out. I bought a vintage record no4 and it was like night and day. For the silverline I just put an arc shaped camber on the blade. Suddenly...

Sad story of my uneven bench top

Here is my 2p. I made a seller's workbench last year. I carefully planed all the bits square and straight or so I thought. I made a pair of winding sticks from some scrap pine, simple and quick. Then I laminated them together and somehow created a big twist along the length. I nearly binned it...

    Marking Knife

I have the Stanley as recommended by Paul Sellers. Seems good to me.

    Opinions on online woodwork tuition

I really struggled cutting straight for years. I am 35 now and have some mates who also got into wood work. One bought a super dooper expensive chop saw because he couldn't get the accuracy he wanted by had. I watched Paul Sellers videos, normally at 1.5 speed. He has fixed it for me and I can...

Help needed! Scaffold board table top, salvageable salvage?

From my perspective I think the table looks nice, and you should not despair. I think you have made an industrial style bit of furniture with those scaffold pole legs. The feature of the cracks and movement in the top could be considered part of the style and I would not try and engineer them...

What wood to use for Paul sellers workbench

I made my Sellers workbench this year. I used 2*3 CLS from Wickes for the top. I was working late and tired when I did the top lamination and made a silly mistake. Some how I forgot to check it was glued up square and ended up with a twisted glue up. I almost started again by figured it would...

Who wants one of these for xmas

That Reddit one is the worst idea. At least the other was made of metal. These all fall in to the category of "just because you can doesn't mean you should"
