Compressor probs ...starting when hot...well not actually hot....

pressure relief valve also called the unloading valve, it's failure will do exactly what you described. It unloads the pressure on the heads. If motor starts, yer caps ain't likely bad, so don't go there yet.. Eric in the colonies

    Why do we do it

For me, fixing things was a pragmatic reality. As a self employed person, something goes wrong with the van full of tools , I just ain't gonna unload it, take it to a shop, wait a couple of days till they get around to fixing it. Ergo, fix it yerself in the eve so yer set to go next...

    Best router for table

I am partial to hitachi M12V. this stems from when I was cutting a lot of raised panels and many of the higher HP 1/2" shank routers had a lot of flex in the mounts. And for those who cut raised panels a slight "dig-in" by the router bit means a lot of sanding to make it disappear. Bought...

Advice re: best detail power sander

ANY oscillating saw/sander is better than none at all. My first was a Fein at 500$cdn, second only cost 25$ three years later off a discount (returned) counter- why, because the blade was installed incorrectly. What I would look at is cost of blades. Fein is still insanely expensive, and while...

Restoring an old brass and ebony(?) brace - “metallic frame

I too would be hesitant to mess with the brass screws, they seem to become brittle with age, and break easily. Buffing them up with I'd use something like this in a demel rotary tool with a delicate touch. https://www.amazon.ca/3M-Scotch-Brite-Radial-Bristle-Discs/dp/B000MQNKP4 My source is a...

    Tricks for extracting rusty nails...

I know I've posted this technique n several laces, but maybe not here. My technique is to is a split pin of a slightly smaller inner diameter than the screw/nail. Then use a dremmel abrasive disc or diamond wheel to grind the edges of the slot to a cutting edge similar to a plug cutter...

How to cut a slate slab (and how difficult is it)?

slate cuts easily with a diamond blade in a skill saw. For letters, I bought some vinyl resist from a local sandblast place whom also provided the sand-blasting compound, had it cut on a lase cutter to size, put it on some granite, and 10 minutes with a sandblaster produced this. Address#'s...
