Who wants one of these for xmas

Mad - by the time you've done all that you could have gone to B&Q for a £60 chainsaw and cut down a forest! And having used a (proper) chainsaw quite a lot it looks unsafe to me - a real machine has teeth under the blade to grip the wood being cut, especially when cutting logs on a saw-horse.

Birch Plywood for Furniture - Online Retailers

Do you have a geographic location/URL for your supplier please? The only source I can find is for A4 size sheets for hobby projects? The OP (and I) would be looking for full size 8' x 4' sheets

Birch Plywood for Furniture - Online Retailers

Any decent timber merchant should be able to source good Birch plywood .... the BIG problem with online is the delivery cost .... I looked a while ago and the delivery cost was more than the 3 sheets of ply I wanted!! If your own transport is a problem, again most decent merchants will cut the...

The Parkside pillar drill is it worth having?

The Aldi/Lidl pillar drills seem OK to me - I've certainly drilled through that thickness with mine (obviously stopping and removing drill from the workpiece to clear the shavings fairly frequently) - in fact I just remembered that I drilled through a 4" block of wood the other day with a 1" bit...

    Sheet material recommendation

I'd be inclined to try and find some lower-grade Birch ply (can't remember the letter combinations for quality - timber merchant will know) and make sure that edges of the stuff you make are either lipped or well sealed with varnish.

    Not quite there

If you already have a circular saw why not try making cuts using a rail of some sort to run the saw against? - quite a few YouTube videos on the subject, including some ideas for turning the normal circular saw into a track- saw. Have to say that since I bought a track-saw (cheapie Screwfix...

    Sheet material recommendation

If cost is an issue it's often cheaper to buy cheapest the B&Q/Wickes kitchen units - rather than the materials, hinges, fittings etc. - OK you don't get the build pleasure but they do work. My workshop is a couple of custom made benches and about half a kitchen's worth of s/h base and wall...

    Sand between coats of Osmo?

Yes in principle - although for a large-ish table I did put the first coat on with a small foam roller - rolling it out as thinly as possible. I left 24 hours before applying each of the subsequent coats with a rag. The other furniture was all just done with a rag for all coats. I've been...

    Sand between coats of Osmo?

This is the pad I used - but can't remember which grit, probably highest as it's pretty soft? . . . Woodleys Finishing Pad - Wood Finishes Direct

    Sand between coats of Osmo?

The OSMO website and my supplier of choice, Wood Finishes at Folkestone have some good technical data sheets. My own experience with some Birch ply furniture is : thin coat, very light rub with the grey "scouring pad" and repeat twice more . . . and then a 6 monthly treatment with the OSMO...

    Parkside scroller

The OP question about blades hasn't been addressed . . . I don't think there is an alternative to the blade fitting/re-fitting on these basic saws. And - it's a bit harsh to castigate the OP for buying a cheap machine - everyone has to start somewhere and for many people the basic Aldi/Lidl...

    Veneered Plywood Oxfordshire

You could ask Cutlist cutlist.co.uk which is just south-east of Oxford along the M40 at Chinnor. They supply and cut with the utmost precision all sorts of sheet materials and I think do veneering and laminating etc. They precison cut some 19mm Birch ply for some furniture for me and made...

    MFT-Style Workbench

Wow - that looks too smart to use and get sawdust on it! It makes my mobile bench made from Dexion look quite primitive. And as George Clarke or Kevin Mcloud would say: ". . . and the budget?"

    Toggle clamps

I bought some from Banggood - copies of GoodHand by the look of them - just watch for the size you are ordering - some are very small. Last time I bought any they were about 5 days from a UK warehouse.

    Daft little job yesterday morning

The Axminster YouTube channel did a 3 dimensional reindeer last week with a scrollsaw (one piece of timber) - with free plans to have a go yourself

    Powerfile "adapter" for angle grinder

Yebbut getting the chuck off was easy - fit the chuck key and tap it with the hammer to start unscrewing - a lot simpler than the drill of today (at least the ones I have)

    Powerfile "adapter" for angle grinder

I suppose the concept was the same as today's "common battery platform" for loads of different tools (of the same brand) - just the other way round! A drill-press and a horizontal box thing that clamped the drill to take a grinding or polishing wheel also crept into my garage . . . that said...

    Powerfile "adapter" for angle grinder

I think it's going to be the Silverline - the B&D is a bit chunky with the motor on the side and likely to get in the way with some of the stuff I expect to sand. Hopefully it'll be better than the Silverline "dremel type machine" which failed in 3 different ways within a week of purchase - as...

    Peanut Connecting System
