    Small Bandsaw

A few years ago I brought the basic Aldi mini bandsaw. For £80 my expectations were very low, but it has proved to be one of the tools I use most and has punched well above its weight. I am only a casual user, but I had to do some fairly major surgery to repair our rotting conservatory which...

Time for a new Drill & Impact driver....what's your thoughts?

I had a basic Bosch cordless drill and it was crap, (Chinese cheese), the battery only lasted a year or two. I replaced it with a "Worx" cordless drill with 2 batteries which has been going fine for the last few years, (I am an "occasional" user).

    More garbage from China

I have purchased items from China that have been fine, and other that I have had to return. I think Chinese manufacturing problems are similar to the early days of Japanese production, ie massive variability. However the Japanese eventually learned about the impact of variability within the...

    Parkside wet and dry grinder

I got the similar version from Aldi and was so disappointed I sent it back...it was very cheap! I then decided to pay more for better quality and ended up with one from Record......that lasted about a10 mins before it broke, (made from Chinese cheese with no quality control), so I ended up...

    12" compound mitre saw

..when I changed I was going to go Makita, but when I checked them out at our local store I found the slide action to be very "gritty".....may be just a one off (?) problem....

    12" compound mitre saw

..I ended up with a Metabo, very pleased with it so far..

Can you beat this for quality?

Got a wet stone sharpener from Record "Power", lasted all of 10 mins before the tie rods holding the plastic motor cover pulled out of their inserts...crap design, crap materials and no quality control...and I always liked Record stuff!...would have probably been acceptable if it had been about...

    Bandsaw Buddy

..I tried one on my Aldi bandsaw, but when I turned it on it kept falling off??

Lumberjack BS305 12" Bandsaw Unpacking, Assembly & First Impressions

..good initial review! ..did you consider any other makes before selecting this one, and if so what made this one your preferred choice. (I have been looking at the Schepach Basa 3)...

Bandsaw Advice Scheppach BASA 3.0V and must have Blades

https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/threads/buying-a-bandsaw.124633/#post-1420799 ..a few posts on this subject recently. The above contains links to some good Youtube vids. Seems like a decent saw for the money as I have been thinking about getting the same myself. Not sure about blades, but my...

DeWalt table saw quality going down hill?

..probably gone over to the well established "chinese cheese" method of variable production so loved by some other manufacturers? Always seems odd to me that many (many) years ago the Japanese were generally considered crap, but then they introduced some world class processes with quality...

    Mitre saw recommendations?

Really depends on your budget. I have a Metabo, (KGS 254 single bevel). I could not find a double bevel within my price / size range. Nice saw and don't really miss the double bevel. I looked at several makes before I took the plunge and have not regretted my decision yet. NB You may want to...

    Buying a bandsaw

Ref the Aldi ones, I got one of the earlier (smaller) 8inch bandsaws and for what I use it for it has been really good and punched above its weight. I mainly needed something to help me repair a rotten conservatory that needed a lot of relatively small pieces of hard woodcut up, and it proved a...

Who wants one of these for xmas

...why why why why???.....must be barking mad, bit like buying a motorbike and spending £50k converting it into a car...????

    Powerfile "adapter" for angle grinder

For the sake of an extra few quid I would just get a cheapie Silverline powerfile off Amazon. It's one of those tools that you don't need very often, but when you do, nothing else will do and "attachements" never seem to work quite as well as the dedicated item.

    Does anyone else dislike routers?

...yep as a "casual" (very) user I hate the bloody things as well. Try everything I can to use something else instead. I guess if you have a "proper" set up in a table they are not too bad. As for circular saws...omg, I would love one but could never see myself buying one as I think I would do...

    Scheppach Baso 3.0v v Charnwood W730???

..ta for the update...I am about to "push the button" after reviewing some youtube videos...I was going to go the Record route, but this .seems like a better compromise in terms of size v price..

    Scheppach Baso 3.0v v Charnwood W730???

...I have been looking at reviews for Charnwood and they are not very good regarding the "variable quality". I am now leaning (heavily........45+ degrees) towards the Scheppach, (Screwfix are doing it for £449 delivered). They are German, (still probably made in China), but hopefully better...
