Bench sanders? small combi model or a larger disc?

..after months of deliberating re combi or larger single disc I got the record 12 inch...really glad i did, combined with a small bandsaw does 90% of what I need to do. ..so for me it would always be the larger single disc...no brainer...

    bandsaw buying advice plese?

..to a large extent you get what you pay for. I never really bothered about a band saw until I brought an Aldi "cheapie". But it is very "small" and the fence is a bit crap and the table is a pressed tin affair...but its been absolutely brilliant for the money and I could not have repaired my...

    Which powertool to get first?

I recently started "woodworking"..mainly out of necessity, (repairing a rotten conservatory). I had a few tools, my first one which I got years ago was a mitre saw..and it got used a lot to make "garden furniture" type stuff...but next to useless for conservatory repairs. I then got a "cheapie"...

    Fox Bandsaws

..after falling for "cheap" tools in the past I can only advise you not to do it, you will be regretting it in a matter of days if not minutes....very much by cheap by twice.

Your best and worst power tool purchases

a year or two ago I purchased a Katsu palm router from E-bay because it was "cheap", (£30), then threw it in a draw and forgot about.... now repairing my rotten conservatory and finding this little tool invaluable.... :)

    Which Mitre Saw to buy?

I went through this process last year....lots of different makes considered...long story short, (trench cut, easy to carry, reasonable quality, reasonable price, reasonable capacity), I went for the Metabo KGS254M 254MM as it seemed to give the best of most worlds. You want a minimum 250 dia...

Using Bandsaw to Square up timber?

..yep, I think a band saw would be most useful. I never really thought I needed one until I recently got my hands on an Aldi cheapie, now I am wondering how I ever lived without one! if I could only have one power tool then it would probably be a band saw, (would have been a mitre saw, but I...

S/C Mitre Saw or Table Saw

..tough choice....and I suppose it depends on the room you have. I have had a mitre saw for years, (recently "upgraded" it to a larger diameter). At oe time it was my "main" worktool as I was shed building and needed to cut long lengths at various angles and a table saw would not have been...

Aldi bandsaw....does anybody have one and can comment?

Thats definitely the same as the Aldi one...and at £109 from Screwfix I still think its a good buy..(I think I paid £80 from Aldi and I am sure it will come around again if you are prepared to wait a bit...

Your best and worst power tool purchases

..OK its not a "power tool", but seeing as its my thread I must mention the "joint genie", ...simply an awesome piece of kit....expensive for what it is..but an absolute Godsend to people like me (..ie with no jointing skills).....makes doweling a pleasure...

Your best and worst power tool purchases

Hi all and thanks for your feedback. I note a lot of very bad reviews for the cheaper planner thicknesser....shame really as I really fancied one and can't really justify (afford) a more expensive one..may try 2nd hand....also please that I am not alone in being "planner incompetent"....I also...

Your best and worst power tool purchases

Hi, I am relatively "new" to woodworking / DIY and have been buying tools as and when I need them. Just wondering what power tools you like, and which ones you find not so good. (I understand it depends on the type of work you are doing, but for me mainly for general DIY'ing / household repairs...

Aldi bandsaw....does anybody have one and can comment?

Hi G7, ..now I have "owned" my first bandsaw (Aldi cheapie), I realise how useful they are. I always wanted one, but was put off by price and space for a "good one". However after using the little Aldi almost continuously since I got it about 4 weeks ago I realise how useful they are!! If / when...

Aldi bandsaw....does anybody have one and can comment?

Hi all, just had my first problem with this saw. The "guide" would not "wind down". Problem was sawdust "embedded" in the plastic rack. Not a major problem but it did require stripping out the guide unit which also meant removing the top wheel "frame" completely to allow me to get the guide unit...

Aldi bandsaw....does anybody have one and can comment?

OK I know its not going to cut 4 inches of oak, but I have been considering a band saw for very occasional, (and limited) use and was wondering if anybody had got one of these for light work and what they thought of it?
