    Vaccine Passports (domestic).

It's not actually sensitive though. Also, I'm not under any misapprehension that I don't already live in a quasi surveillance state where if the authorities chose to do so they could identify me in public, track my movements, intercept my communications, or access tax, employment, financial or...

    Vaccine Passports (domestic).

It really wouldn't bother me, it's not functionally any different to having to present Photo ID to get into some bars, or buy beer at the off-licence... Which doesn't happen as frequently as it used to, but still often enough that it's an entirely normal part of life.

    Vaccine Passports (domestic).

What's so scary? In any case I think you'll find the Hepatitises are already on the WHO ICVP along with Typhoid, Yellow Fever, Cholera, Polio, Smallpox (now defunct), Meningococcal Meningitis, etc.

That's reasonable, as I've 100% seen the kind of ancient and botched installations you're talking about! Having thought more about it, I can see a good argument that it's being appropriate to use them as an additional "layer of protection" in those situations, although personally would prefer a...

    Vaccine Passports (domestic).

I'm broadly in favour, and like @AES have my little yellow book (which was once couriered to me in East Africa, after I forgot it, and realised that whilst they had let me in, border control wouldn't let me out of the country I was in without it). But, if we go down this route, I believe...

If you're following safe isolation procedures, you would surely be testing at the source of the circuit, then locking out prior to working anywhere else; finding out if there was a break is then a case of running continuity tests on the individual conductors, (or by looping LN, NE, LE if it's...

I discovered today that Wera make one... Coming from them I presume that it's actually a good screwdriver, even though it's a terrible idea. Notably, it was about £17 from what I saw, whilst the cheapest dedicated two probe tester on the market is £19 I am sufficiently horrified by the idea of...

    Old duffers rebellion.

I think that the damage of the existing lockdown is largely already done, and even a couple of months difference isn't going to make a huge difference to that one way or the other. From my perspective (and in this it's worth bearing in mind I've only ever worked for or managed business units...

    Old duffers rebellion.

Oh yes, I can fully agree with you on that. After all the NHS is the closest thing we have to a national religion (I can hear the entire C of E wincing in unison there)... And if it's a choice between evoking that connection Britain has, misusing the "Protect" message ad-infinitum or...

    More beer for me

A good friend of mine made some Dark Mild a few years ago... Although neglected the instructions to clarify it because he'd mislaid the findings by the time it got to that point. The beer was pretty palletable if a bit cloudy, and we imbibed a great quantity of it in a group. About 4 hours...

    Old duffers rebellion.

I do like a good analogy, the more bizarre and humorous the better, although there's limited scope for that here. So picking on the washing machine analogy: It's more like you inherited a twintub from your grandparents, who found it to be perfectly functional for getting their lightly soiled...

    Old duffers rebellion.

I couldn't agree with you more on this. I'm cautiously optimistic that the government's decision to unwind the 2012 changes to the NHS will eliminate significant inefficiencies that were baked in by trying to push competition for ideological reasons, within a natural monopoly. Certainly within...

    Coincidentally timed email scam

I had a similar scam come to me when I SORN-ed my Mondeo online, and one which came to me regarding Tax Rebates after I went on the HMRC website to look something up. It's conceivable that someone has worked out how to use information from tracking cookies to link up with telephone numbers they...

    Securing your workshop

That makes sense, if I ran a pair of 1mm² 7 core cables that would give me enough for a mag switch on each door, 2 PIR's, Tamper loop on remote panel, alarm loop, and communication for the remote panel. This is a consideration, although adds cost compared to direct buried, I guess the question...

    Metal Bandsaw Restoration

Any mineral based oil will be alright. If you're leaving parts unused for a long time I find grease more reliable than oil, but it's very messy to clean up. Spray on cosmoline is about as convenient a method as there is for rust proofing with grease, and it's highly reliable, just requires a...

    Drill press replacement

Kitchen and Walker (sold via Chester Machine Tools) are still available new, and they have a couple of pillar drills in their range alongside all the big radials and universals... Decent machines, although potentially more expensive than a used milling machine.

    Securing your workshop

With that in mind, what cable would you generally run to signal back to an alarm in the house? I'm getting to the point where I'm ready to regularise the issues I had with my workshop electrics and will be putting in new buried SWA 3 Core & SWA Cat6; whilst I don't have the cash for an alarm...

    Metal Bandsaw Restoration

If you don't use a dedicated coolant pump with fine, easily cleaned strainer pots built in, mount it with the inlet well above the bottom of the tank, with a baffle between it and the return point, which goes down lower than the (pump) inlet. Gravity will then separate whatever the strainer...

    Insulation thickness for walls?

Rockwool isn't as good an insulator as PIR, but it's still pretty good as insulating materials go. It's advantage however is that it's both orders of magnitude cheaper, and far and away the superior product for sound deadening. I went with it because the sound insulation was important for me...

    What's your Router Plane Style

My router plane was inherited from my great grandfather, and doesn't fit any of the above styles listed. Effectively it's two blocks of wood carved to be easy to grip which screw together (with woodscrews) clamping the blade in place. The blade itself is little more than a broken off chisel...
