    House Buying - Advice?

No problem with profit making in the private rental market. Let market forces do their thing. It doesn't really have a place in public sector housing though. God knows how much public money is spent on temporary hotel accommodation and the leasing of privately owned properties. Maybe I'm being...

    House Buying - Advice?

I'd maybe ban the leasing of BTL property back to councils. Why should privateers profit? One of the issues with rental is security of tenure. Far more secure through a council or HA.

    House Buying - Advice?

No, we definitely need affordable housing. Higher quality will just mean the developers pass on the higher prices. Councils shouldn't need to buy the land and are not building for profit so should be able to build quality homes for far less than a developer. Maybe councils should do more to...

    House Buying - Advice?

If only the land was available. Do you still get VAT back on new builds?

    House Buying - Advice?

We need to build 'council houses' Not through housing associations disguised as charities. Today's social housing is hardly affordable on the average wage. Often needs two wage earners. So glad my Mum and Dad didn't take up right to buy. I could have bought it for them (or really for us kids)...

    House Buying - Advice?

We are fairly flexible but probably the same places everyone is clamouring for. Ideally near Suffolk coast from Woodbridge up to Southwold and across to Halesworth, Framlingham. Pretty much ruled out Beccles and Saxmundham and anywhere too remote or sitting on the A12. Not actually in Southwold...

    House Buying - Advice?

Short answer: Get on the ladder. You need a roof over your head. It doesn't really matter how much the property is worth in the short term. Negative equity is only a problem when you sell. Building equity only really matters if your plan is to eventually downsize and release money to help fund...

Wanting to build a door for a glorified shed with a bit of substance

Hi @el_Pedr0 The timber thickness is 44mm The bottom rail is 190mm wide. The middle rail is 150mm Everything else is 90mm I don't know why the rails are different widths. Perhaps more like a traditional timber door rather than a basic framed, ledged and braced one.

Doesn't sound good does it? Claiming you've ingested this stuff unknowingly is hard to believe when you surely have to be cautious about any food and food supplements.

    Olympics

So many schools have sold off their sports fields. Cricket is alive and kicking at junior level. My local club is inundated with young cricketers every Friday night. Harder to find the time to play as an adult I got roped into taking my level 1 coaching badge and ran a team on Sundays when my...

MJ also made it clear that the GB Men's 4x100m relay team threw away the gold with a terrible last leg. We were supposed to be happy with silver but MJ quite rightly pointed out that our final runner's technique had deserted him. The presenters seemed to gloss over his accurate observations. I...

They need to cater for all levels of knowledge so it's always going to cater for the lowest common denominator. I thought Lutalo Muhammad came across really well as a pundit. Chris Hoy and Beth Tweddle too. I found the diving pundit a bit annoying. Michael Johnson is indeed excellent although...

Still better than Tokyo 1964 as I recall. Ann Packer winning gold on black and white TV (405 lines) Bit repetitive this time around I suppose but I didn't get up to watch the very early morning events live. The coverage suited my needs.

    Olympics

I thought the BBC coverage was excellent. The presenters, pundits and commentators were very good. Really enjoyed watching different sports. Huge respect to Team GB. It takes massive commitment and hard work over many years to get to Olympic standard. They did us proud and I felt the joy and...

I can assure you I did and I was totally exhausted by the experience. Like I’d pedalled up two mountains with them.

    Who else thinks this?

I watched a few hours of TdF on ITV4 yesterday. Admittedly I fell asleep a couple of times. Woke up and the commentators were running out of new things to say. 9%-12% gradient for miles on end. That's tough. Steady pedalling until the final kilometre. Spectacular scenery. No one crashed. The...

I thought BLM protests and subsequent rioting and statue toppling was doing a good job of that.

So any attention is good attention then? It appears to be causing even more division. Crystal Palace player Wilfred Zaha stopped taking the knee because he sees it as a hollow gesture. He wants to see real action and some results. He’s right. We need more of what Rashford has done with help...

    Who else thinks this?

Apparently not, according to him. Originally he just sat then started taking the knee, supposedly to show some respect to the anthem. I'm only repeating what he said, not defending him. But it's sometime good to hear both sides. Kaepernick has done an awful lot for worthy causes and donated a...
