    Abandoned car

If it is not taxed then it needs to be declared SORN. Even if declared SORN it cannot be stored in a Car Park or even in your garden.

    New Workshop Build Advice

The fall on mine is very slight. I didn't, but probably should have spent more time and effort getting them sitting perfectly flat and shimmed any gaps. There are no signs of worrying gaps or instability. They do have a little play in the top plates but not much. My old shed base and the...

Siberian Larch offcuts. Keep or not?

If it's already on how well is it burning? Needs to be well seasoned for it to burn well.

Siberian Larch offcuts. Keep or not?

The SSW facing boards on the shed that really catch the heat from the sun are still oozing sap. I might use some scrap pieces on the outdoor fire pit if it's not too smokey. I won't be using it on the indoor wood burner.

Siberian Larch offcuts. Keep or not?

Yes, I'd read that and it won't be going in my woodburner.

Siberian Larch offcuts. Keep or not?

I've got 30-40 offcuts of Siberian Larch cladding from my shed build. Roughly 320 x145mm Having a tidy up and need to decide whether to chuck them or not. Thought I could make bird boxes and offer them to neighbours. Any other suggestions?

    Who has taken them!

I'd like to see the business case that replaces people with automation and all the redundant workforce get retrained to support the automation. Same thinking that says automation will give us a lot more leisure time.

    Who has taken them!

Automation is going to happen in virtually all areas of employment. The technology in some areas is over-hyped - just look for the Dunning-Kruger curve for some of this stuff. I got disillusioned in my final years working in Banking IT. There was a big push to automate manually intensive...

    Who has taken them!

Not sure where your figures are from. 7,249 according to this article which raises more sinister issues: 0ver 60% of EU citizens stopped at border are Romanian There was plenty of opportunity to apply for settled, or pre-settled status but bound to be some people who didn't bother or couldn't...

    Who has taken them!

Reminds me. I'd forgotten IR35 changes in my list. Favourable tax breaks for the self employed drivers have been reduced. No one has been evicted as afar as I know.

What visa? They'ed have been here under FoM. 10 years here they could have applied for settled status. It's wasn't difficult. My wife is UK born of Italian parents. We had to apply for my Father in Law and her Aunt, plus her cousin's husband. Plus we know several other Italian nationals who...

    House Buying - Advice?

Saving a regular amount, no matter how small is good advice. Saving into a pension is tax efficient. A stocks and shares ISA better than cash over the long term. There are life strategy funds that make investing very simple. Building equity in your home can work as a savings strategy if you can...

    House Buying - Advice?

The U.K. does depend a lot on consumer spending. Low interest rates makes people borrow more. Having an increasing lump of equity in your property makes you think you are far better off than you really are. It encourages people to borrow/spend/remortgage. Thinking: 'We can always downsize'...

    House Buying - Advice?

Right to buy certainly can work for many. My father-in-law bought his council flat for £13k (lived there since 1966). Easy walk into the City of London. At 92 he'll have plenty of money to pay for a nursing home if the need arises. His two bed flat is lost to the housing association. He has had...

    House Buying - Advice?

Conditional reflex to a conditional ideological trope ;) Read my posts Jacob. I'm all in favour of building proper council houses. I was almost born in a shoebox in the middle of the road - well a post-war prefab anyway and then a spanking new council house in the 60's until I left home at 23...
