    Optimising hot water schedule

Started a new thread to avoid hijacking the meter reading one. @johna.clements replied: The boiler is fairly new and we did get a new, well insulated hot water tank at the same time. Relatively short pipe runs to the bathroom, Long ones to kitchen, utility room and cloakroom which must lose...

    Don't forget!

After many years of resisting, waiting for compatibility between suppliers, I finally had smart meters installed. Set up with half hourly readings and downloadable data I could spend hours analysing gas and electricity usage. Occasionally I have a look. I'm trying to optimise the hot water...

    Queen Elizabeth has passed away.

Along with so many other people (but clearly not everyone) I found myself more affected by her death than I expected. It's the end of an era that has seen huge change and progress, but she has remained constant. 15 Prime Ministers, 14 U.S. Presidents, countless other leaders have come and gone...

    Queen Elizabeth has passed away.

Start your own thread for republicans where you can freely express your thoughts about the monarchy. The content of the original post sets the tone, not the name of the thread. You're clearly intelligent enough to know that but not clever enough to know when to keep quiet when a large number...

    Queen Elizabeth has passed away.

It's not a debate on the monarchy. The OP is expressing sympathy for those that feel the loss following hear death. Why not let the bitterness out by starting your own thread instead of contaminating someone else's.

New Lawnmower has leaked oil and has creamy thick residue in foam filter...

The spark plug looks pristine, like it has never run and doesn't look like the cylinder has oil in it or the plug would be contaminated. You've explained the creamy stuff in the filter. Just a good squeeze in some kitchen towel will remove the excess. Hurry up and fire it up. We need to know...

New Lawnmower has leaked oil and has creamy thick residue in foam filter...

So you've got yourself a brand new, free lawn mower! Clean up the oil spills. Wash the filter with soapy water, dry it and re-oil it as per instructions or many YouTube videos. Top up oil and fuel and give a whirl.

I would clean the filter as per the maintenance instructions.

New Lawnmower has leaked oil and has creamy thick residue in foam filter...

It's not clear what's going on here. Have I missed something? The mower was DOA but it had no oil or fuel in it? You've had a refund and they let you keep it? So they didn't inspect it or try to fix it? Did you get a replacement and now have two, or just have the original one that doesn't...

I'm worried about what people will think after I die...

You never know what's around the corner and you clearly knew that from your job. Sounds like you were already living life to the full and good on you. This life is not a practice run. You only get one. Best of luck with your treatment Gary and wishing you a long and even more fulfilled life!

I'm worried about what people will think after I die...

Always check the CQC reports. Standards vary. My Mum tried my Dad in a couple of care homes before she finally did the right thing and brought him home. The quality of the firms providing carers varies enormously. We had to fight to get decent carers. One company employed fabulous Romanian...

I'm worried about what people will think after I die...

Lymes disease is a thing in the U.K.. Not too common but on the rise I think. Initial symptom is a bullseye 🎯 looking bite. After that it gets confused with flu. There have been many cases where it has gone undiagnosed for many months. There is a specific test for it and AIUI it's easy to...

I'm worried about what people will think after I die...

Don't let your loved one leave hospital until a suitable care package is in place and funded appropriately. Hospital wants you out ASAP which is understandable but don't accept a crap care home or take them back home without the house being suitable and carers and equipment sorted. This is why...

We're all here to procreate and pass on our genes. That's all. So put the tools down, stop climbing mountains and get on with the job you're meant to be doing.

    Fire pit grill

Certainly with charcoal it's best to light it in a chimney starter. I guess you could use one for wood but it would have to be split into thin sticks/logs. Some people use fully lit charcoal to get the wood going quicker. Lumpwood charcoal is better for that. Lights easier and burns quicker...

    Fire pit grill

TBH I think you'll get a bit frustrated trying to cook that type of food on that set up. I'd want something more stable for flipping burgers and less chance of sausages and drumsticks rolling into the fire. As others have mentioned you need to cook over embers not a flaming fire. You can...

    Fire pit grill

I'm another 'BBQ Freak' Only got 4 though. I haven't cooked meat indoors for many years and BBQ/Grill all year round. @LittleEars has made some excellent points and is asking the right question - What do you want to cook? Do you already have a 'normal' BBQ? Adapting a fire pit for cooking...

A post about nothing much at all.

One man's trash is another man's treasure. I wonder if there is some link to the pleasure of Stone Age man foraging for food and spotting a nice big apple that everyone has missed.
