    Your Cars

No point spending all that money on an 850cc engine. Most power comes from extra capacity. I had a few races in an 850cc Mini 7 many, many years ago. 649 cam, 12G940 head, Reece Fish carb, straight cut drop gears and gearbox - 70bhp at the wheels. Still the most entertaining form of club...

Retraining at a (slightly) older age.

I think the OP has already weighed up the advice and is going down a sensible low risk path. We live in very unstable times. Even in 'normal' times most small businesses fail. I think it's much harder to succeed as an independent, self-employed worker compared to 10/20/30 years ago. A...

Probably more upset about losing his job as a Tonka test driver (read his signature)

I've been in love with Dolly Parton my whole life.

The roots of Bluegrass are English/Irish/Scottish folk music so there is a very close link. It was a tough life so you can see how uplifting the music and dancing can be. O Brother, Where Art Thou? is an entertaining Coen brothers film with a Bluegrass soundtrack.

I've been in love with Dolly Parton my whole life.

DP is one smart and very talented lady. Watched a documentary about her several years ago which kicked off an interest in Bluegrass.

    Your Cars

I used to love driving in my late teens, early 20's when there were far fewer cars on the road. Favourite car was a 1969 998cc Mini Cooper. Now I sadly get satisfaction from my 2004 Honda CR-V. Owned from new. It's now used for dog transport, trips to the recycling centre (took a 6 x 10 shed...

Retraining at a (slightly) older age.

After 44 years of office work I'm now 18 months into retirement able to pursue stuff I want to do. I found myself saying 'I wish I'd pursued a trade' because I enjoy my hobbies more than my job. I'm frustrated because I don't have the skill levels I want. Listening to mates who have trade...

Pretty miffed at the (lack of) response

+1 The OP did get a response eventually, but there was a delay. The majority of people are good and honest but some will be thoughtless, or take the pee.

    Ring Doorbells....

No, unfortunately not. I think the video clips are all stored in the Ring cloud. Not aware of any local storage. If your broadband fails then the alerts are not recorded. Seems to be getting very popular and they keep adding new features. For example, you can record still images at specific...

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Great video. My roof is 'flat' and max 2.5m and it was still scary. Took a while to build up some confidence. Could you have started at the bottom of the roof and put some battens on as you go? Then you'd have something to stop you sliding off? Just a thought for others. Also, why not...

New Workshop - Roof Now On

I'm liking the trusses. How did you get those in place? Edit: Put together in situ

    Fence covering

One of those things where you either need to suck it up or spend money on a solution. You could put your own fence in. Plant some ivy or other aggressive climber and wait for the neighbours to complain when it grows through the panels. Get some Fake hedge to cover it Put a few randomly placed...

Frying pans ..........an odd request ...

I use a couple of Lodge pans. I like them. One is better seasoned than the other though. Petromax (made in Germany) also have a very good reputation.

    Ring Doorbells....

I have a wired Ring doorbell. Agree with Fezman about picture quality, it's fine. Human detection works well - no more wildlife triggering alerts. Get occasional false alerts caused by shadows of people walking past the gate. My first one had set up problems but the support was excellent -...

    Tiny Office/Shed Build

Book sounds really good but I'm too far into my build now - cladding stage. Mistakes have been baked in  Nothing I can't live with though. I'm finding all the great advice a little too late. Kicking myself for not finding all this info a few months ago! Happy to share my own shed...

    Tiny Office/Shed Build

Based on recent experience as a noob shed builder. -Walls need to be right on the edge of the slabs to avoid splashback. - Make sure everything is square - the studs, the individual frames, the corners and the rafters. Especially with 3 x 2 600mm centres - OSB is usually imperial - 8' x 4' so I...

Proper BIG woodworking on TV - Notre Dame

Half way through the 'Storyville' documentary on the fire itself. Currently the roof is well ablaze. Tragic. The roof structure was called The Forest due to the number of timbers in it. The rebuild sounds fascinating. Thanks for the heads up.

    OSB for outside use.

Agreed. I've got a good overhang, no soffits to help good airflow across the rafters and exposed OSB in the roof is painted in Barn paint. The rest is kept weatherproofed but might have its moisture resistance tested occasionally.
