Which type of bearing to use?

The problem isn't horizontal play in the holes (for my use case). It doesn't matter if the holes are slightly too big. The problem is play in the vertical direction (in the diagram I showed). Which was why I mentioned the thrust bearings. Basically, I want to have zero(as close to) up/down...

Which type of bearing to use?

I didn't say they needed lubrication. 😉 As for the what plane it will be on, horizontally, and no extra weight, it just needs to support itself.

Which type of bearing to use?

I might be missing something, but aren't I going to have the same problem I had with using washers? Where once you tighten down enough to remove any play, you've essentially clamped the spacer tight between the two pieces of aluminium and it won't rotate? Or will the lubrication hopefully avoid...

Which type of bearing to use?

Isn't that going to require extremely accurate drilling to get it to work with zero play? wouldn't it also make it easier to twist the ends? as now you have very little area that the pieces are resting on?

Which type of bearing to use?

I'm wanting to make an "articulated" arm type thing (although it will only rotate in one plane). As shown in the image below, the grey bars will be 3030 aluminium extrusion, and there will be an M8 bolt going through the 3 pieces as shown by the black line. The grey pieces on either end should...

Wall mounted Extractors (Axminster AP50E vs RP Camvac)

I'm looking at these two models : https://www.recordpower.co.uk/product/150l-2000w-compact-wall-mounted-extractor-4-inlet#.Y-jx1nanz-g vs https://www.axminstertools.com/axminster-professional-ap50e-dust-extractor-230v-107631 They work in completely different ways. The Camvac will suck the bag...

    Flat bottom hole

I want to drill a flat bottomed hole to accept a 608-2RS bearing, and then also a through hole for the 8mm center. So 22mm OD, and 8mm ID. The flat bottomed hole would need to be about 7mm deep. How would you do this with bright mild steel and only a floor standing drill press? I'm assuming...

    Replacement Carbide cutters/tips

I like to use flat carbide cutters for some hollowing operations. Whilst the cupped carbide do cut faster, I like the fact that you can easily touch up the flat ones on a diamond stone. My question is. What do you think the difference would be in : 1x of these at £20 Crown Carbide Pro...

    Vaccum pump

Can't really fill the grain as I'd be cutting away the material being filled.

    Vaccum pump

Well, a higher CFM is around £120 for a cheap one and upwards of £300 for a better quality one. So risky 😬

    Vaccum pump

I was thinking that a higher CFM could hold a better vacuum even with a leak. As its removing more air quicker (than a lower cfm) than being lost due to the leak.

    Vaccum pump

I've got one of the cheap Amazon vacuum pumps, 0.8pa, 3 CFM. It works great, and gets a vacuum of at least -29inHg, which secures pieces to my wood turning vacuum chuck just great. However ... when the piece has tiny air gaps in the grain, a good suction cannot be formed, and I only get about...

    Pillar drill recommendations

Can't recommend the Axminster AP700PD. Have had ongoing issues with runout and still haven't managed to figure it out.

Anyone had a new oil boiler installed recently?

I am now thinking of going with a normal boiler (not combi) and a water tank. It's more expensive, and takes up more space, but seems to be a lot more reliable, and has the added benefit of you still having hot water if the heating fails.

Anyone had a new oil boiler installed recently?

That seems cheap, is that actually oil? Or gas? I've been quoted £4k to just swap out the old one with the new one. No other changes.

Anyone had a new oil boiler installed recently?

I'm looking to upgrade mine as its 15+ years old, and often has issues. It's a comb. I'm in a 2 bedroom bungalow, and mine is installed in the garage. What did you pay?

    Spin Dryers

Cheers for the comments. When drying indoors, the only option for me is a dehumidifier, as the flat already can get damp. So that rules out drying clothes on radiators or any other heated source. I really need to capture the moisture, not let it evaporate. So my thinking was that I'd still be...

    Spin Dryers

Yes, dehumidifiers aren't cheap to run, but the idea is to collect the moisture rather than using a heated source to prevent damp.

    Spin Dryers

Anyone got one? Are they as good as they appear in the reviews? I.e extracting 90% of the water to then dry much quicker. I live in a small flat with just enough room for a washing machine. In the winter I do my drying in a small room with a dehumidifier, which works really well. But there are...

    Vaccum pump filter?

    Ah yes, another good point.
