Height gauge - verdict, do you have one?

Are you sure it uses an arm as you describe? Ive never seen one of this type in the flesh, but all the pictures I’ve seen do not show an arm. The arm most people have described as being available is for a completely different style of gauge

Help!! Door square and flat, cabinet square, door not closing properly!

If as you say everything is flat and square, logically it can only be the hinge adjustment…some of them take a while to get your head round. if you remove the hinges, can you then position the door correctly?

    Help MT2 stuck

Is it possible that the tapers are rusted together? It may help to firstly hit the flange as though to tighten it to loosen the grip, then hit the flange on both sides to release it. I also think a heavy duty slide hammer attached to the flange is the answer.

    Long Clamp Advice

The T section 136 / 138 series Record sash clamps are good and can be found fairly cheaply on EBay, if you can find them locally without postage costs

An early Record 52 1/2 vice, finishing options.

You’ll soon fill it…have fun.. BTW…the threaded holes for the jaws are 5/16” BSWhitworth, but UNC will also fit

An early Record 52 1/2 vice, finishing options.

I wouldn’t use any grease anywhere on it to, for the same reason…it just acts like a dust magnet, and clogs the threads etc..A regular clean and fine oil is all that’s needed.

An early Record 52 1/2 vice, finishing options.

It’s gone darker because you’ve not actually gone down to bare metal when removing the rust, you’ve only removed a thin layer…The darker parts are where there is still rust remaining. if it’s staying in a dry atmosphere, a regular run over with a light oil will prevent it from rusting further...

    Screw extractors that actually work

A lot depends on what you have available. If it’s broken just above the surface welding a nut on usually works as the applied heat helps free any rust. Presto / Dormer left hand thread extractors work quite well. I also have the tapered square shank extractors that are knocked in with a hammer...
